Open again for the season. Get down.

I love this open air cinema. The season usually has a great range of movies, new movies, classic movies, family movies and movies that are out there.
There’s a bring your own rug/​chair etc area which costs nothing more than your entry fee. There’s a beanbag seating area, deck chair seating area and a seat class (I think from memory that’s what it’s called). All of these areas have an additional fee.
I’ve used the bean bag area and deck chair area before, both are comfortable but some of the bean bags are a bit light on in the beans and it sometimes is better to get there earlier to get the best ones.
You can take your own water but it can’t be glass bottles. You can also take soft drink but no alcohol as it’s licensed.
You can buy some food there but the variety isn’t huge and it’s quite pricey so I’d pack a picnic or eat before getting there.
Toilet facilities leave a lot to be desired, at times there’s no soap and no hand towels and they can be really dirty.
I went several times this year and also happened to go on the last night and the toilets run out of water. So you weren’t a letter to flush or wash your hands.
The best nights to go are Sundays as that’s the family day. They have games and free Ben and Jerry’s ice-​cream.

What a fantastic location!
Saw WILD here not long ago and was quite impressed with the arrangements. We had bean bag lounge chairs and blankets (cool autumn nights). Access to a bar, short walk to the bus/​train station (Esplanade).
What’s not to love about enjoying a movie in the great outdoors of one of the best cities in Australia!
Huge screen. Absolutely no problem with hearing the movie.
Definitely be going again!

Tried this one out courtesy of Unilocal and Ben & Jerrys Open Air Cinemas. It was a great night out. Plenty of seating options available. Visuals and sound were spot on. We saw Insurgent on a Thursday night. I was surprised to see so many people. Would definitely be keen to come back next season if it’s on again. Love the fact you can bring your own picnic basket ;) money saver and also means you can bring what you want: p down sides, was a bit chilly towards the end of April, no soft drinks for sale-​only water and alcohol from what I saw. Loved The Ben and jerrys flavours on offer. The Pizza looked delish but as we had already had dinner we didn’t try it. A great night out had by all.

Last weekend we headed to Ben & Jerrys Openair Cinema for the Sundae session screening of Princess Bride.
The weather forecast was looking iffy but we decided to take a chance…
When we arrived I got a parking spot right across the road from the entrance and unloaded the kids, their chairs, umbrellas, jackets etc and we were soon setting up inside.
We played cow-​a-​jenga, mini golf, ate too much icecream (unlimited B&J’s icecream during Sundae Sessions) then settled in to watch the musician.
5 minutes before the screening started it got a bit black so I grabbed some of the free ponchos and within seconds there was a downpour! It went for about 5 minutes in which time many people left but once it stopped the clouds cleared, the stars were out and we had a great night watching the movie.
I also grabbed us some pizzas from the pizza stall. The mushroom pizza was amazing! I want to know where I can get a hold of a whole pizza of that! It was about $ 7.50 per slice but the slices were huge rectangles of pizza so one slice per person was plenty.

I went for the first time to see Wild here and really enjoyed it. They open the place up several hours before the movie with DJs most days and sometimes live bands. You can bring your own picnic (only no glass or alcohol… security does a quick check) or you can purchase food/​drinks (beer, wine, cider, soft drinks…)/ice cream there. Apparently Sundays also includes free Ben & Jerry’s! It’s a really nice way to make an evening out of it!
We were there on a Thursday night before Easter to see a less-​well-​known movie, so it was fairly quiet. We only had general admission tickets (which normally means you either bring your own blanket to sit on or have to pay extra to rent seating); however, because it was so empty, we were able to use the bean bags laid out. After a big of wriggling about to get them as desired, very comfortable! It was quite chilly, so a blanket was not amiss. Didn’t notice many bugs, though. Screen and sound were all good. There were bathrooms available. There was even a booth set up by a wine company (Giesen from New Zealand) giving away free wine samples and coupons! Not sure if that’s normally a feature, but very nice when we were there. Really nice wine as well (including an organic option and a delicious combo of cider and Riesling)!
There is also a VIP area… not sure all the perks it entails, but I think chair, blanket, perhaps some drinks? This section is a bit further from the screen, though, so made me wonder if the actual view was less good? Anyway, I’m sure some would appreciate the extras there!
Vs. other outdoor cinemas I’ve been to in Perth: Relative to UWA’s Somerville theater, this place is far less beautiful and romantic (more of a casual or family vibe), but has more comfortable seating if you get a bean bag; it shows more mainstream movies vs international/​independent films. Relative to the Rooftop Cinema, it lacks the cool city views, but also has more comfortable seating and I thought a more chill, enjoyable vibe. Definitely a cool venue, and one I’ll look forward to visiting again!

I’m re writing my original review. I only gave them 2 stars for my first visit (opening night, Thursday) we left as they didn’t really seem to have it together. They were a bit rude and very short so we ended up leaving. Went back last night and they were all fantastic. Very impressed with all the staff except security that took things a little seriously. I asked why he needed to check my little numb bag and he said incase there is alcohol in there. I told him that I keep that in my hip flask in my back pocket. Well it was like the end of the world. told him I was joking and to have a little think about it. He didn’t like it.
Food was great, and they served a cola drink that I adored. does anyone know what it was? I want it for breakfast

On a warm summer’s night, what is better than watching a movie outdoor with all your chums?
Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema had a large range of newly released movies, perfect for anyone. It has a great location down on Riverside Drive in East Perth, set up with deckchairs, bean bags and blankets. On offer is Delisio Pizza ($ 6 – 7 per slice), salad and dessert and for a little tipple, there is the Jar Bar serving Rekorderlig, James Squire and Confectionery.
I went to the closing Sunday Session of Monuments Men which was very good.
The only downside was the shambolic unlimited Ben &Jerry’s scoop prior to the film, which had everyone in a frenzy! There clearly was not enough staff or product to go around which was disappointing as B&J was the primary sponsor of the event.
As Genevieve H said, «it’s like a jetstar flight», first in best dressed, however you really wanted to be in the first class section (deckchairs) where icecream tubs, drinks and food are handed to you on a silver platter for an exxy price.
Despite being a bit grumpy due to lack of icecream endorphins, I was very happy to get a free ticket thanks to Laura and the Unilocal Team and enjoyed the movie with my friend.
I will certainly be back, armed with a whole bag of snacks, drinks and blankets!

I love the concept of outdoor cinemas and Ben and Jerry’s does not disappoint. Although it’s closed now, it was screening a variety of current, classic and just-​released-​on-​DVD movies which I enjoyed.
The entry fees are a little higher than some of the other outdoor cinemas I’ve been to but sadly, in line with the high prices most cinemas charge. Having said that, there are discounts if you book online, and a group booking price is available for 4 tickets.
Pizzas are available and they smell amazing — we went out to dinner before the showing so I don’t know how good they actually taste. Ben and Jerry’s ice cream is of course available to purchase and I am enjoying working my way through their flavours. They have some very interesting concepts but I think I would enjoy it more if it wasn’t pre-​packaged.
I’ve taken a star off as several other outdoor cinemas I’ve been to have seating included in the admissions price, however this outdoor cinema offers either premium/​VIP packages that include seating or bean loungers can be hired for a relatively small additional fee.
The staff were friendly and the area is well set up. A very cool concept and I’m really hoping they reopen next summer!

Ok so it’s closed now for this season, but if it’s open again next year do it … awesome fun!!! Mini golf, free icecream, bean bags, blankets for cold nights, it’s licenced, and great pizza … Most things inside the venue are cash so don’t forget to grab some before you head in.

Went to see Her at Ben & Jerry’s on a glorious Perth evening recently.
I have been to quite a lot of outdoor cinemas in Perth and this would now be my new favorite!
I love the large space, it is well run and set out! There are lots of seating options on the night we sat in the deck chairs but there are blow up couches, a VIP Tent as well as your normal bring a blanket and spread out choice.
Food selection was quite limited with pizza from Delisio Pizza which was delicious — they also sell salads and desert and there is a selection of drinks, popcorn and sweets!
Stunning location and easy to get to with street and car park parking avaliable — just make sure you take your insect spray given the riverside location!

This was the first outdoor cinemas I had been to since I was a kid! I don’t know why I haven’t been to any of the others yet because I really liked it :)
We went and saw Dallas Buyers Club which was an amazing film. Me and my friends bought lots of food and bought a bottle of wine and rugs and were really comfortable. Maybe it was because the film was really good but I forgot I was even outdoors while watching the film!
They also had Ben and Jerrys to buy but I was so full from all the cheese and meats we had eaten I didnt get any. Even in the location of the foreshore, it wasn’t too cold down there– but I do suggest bringing stuff to rug up just in case :)

What a great venue!
I went to watch American Hustle here and was lucky enough to get into the VIP area!
It was fantastic. They gave you a complimentary beverage (wine, beer or cider) and a pot of Ben & Jerrys Icecream! Yes… a BIG tub! :)
We also had nice comfy beanbags that you can lie on as well as a blanket! What a great experience.
It ends soon so make sure you get there before it closes! :)

I give this Openair Cinemas 4 out of 5 stars only because we did get a free scoop of Ben and Jerry’s icecream! I think this is something that is only available for free on Sunday’s, nevertheless I was pretty stoked!
It was cookie dough flavor too so it wasn’t like they were trying to stiff you with an average flavor. It was a nice set up, but I do recommend you head in early if you want to rent a chair or lounger as they were all sold out around 6:30.
I love outdoor cinema’s and this one is worth a try!
