After living in the area for many years I finally checked out the restaurant and immediately regretted not having done so sooner. The patio is wonderful on a sunny day for coffee or lunch(canine companions permitted on the patio) — a stunning setting a throw back to southern Europe where lazy lunches are order of the day. The restaurant is small so wise to book. It has a wonderful french provincial ambiance and the outlook to Monsalvat’s artsy buildings, stunning flora and fauna, peacocks etc makes it feel like a vacation… at least for the duration of your coffee or lunch.

How many times have you asked a local have you been to a café or gallery near them and the answer is a flat ‘No’ and you looked back in amazement! Here’s one of the hidden gems around Melbourne… Monstalvat is a great place to meet up friends for a brunch or a meal and to show off the artists colony that was created way back in the 1930’s. A unique café with an equally unique surrounding — get transported to some part of Europe! I spent a few hours just walking the grounds, watching the galleries and workshops after the brunch. I am dying to get back for more culture and food!
