4 of us went for a brunch. After 40 minute wait I was served poached eggs that were overdone.

Coffee !! That’s right this word can make your day and can screw the day as well and certainly this place is running a coffee shop but doesn’t understand the value of that precious word. I take my coffee very seriously and have got special places to get it from, I turned out to visit here one day and ordered a coffee with sugar premixed in it and I did tell the cashier twice about it and the barista did acknowledge it as well. Oh well, that certainly didn’t happen. Got a coffee which didn’t have any sugar and was certainly not strong but way too strong, not to forget the carrot cake which definitely wasn’t fresh and had absolutely no flavour at all! Would never recommend this place to anyone !!

The Turtle is in trendy Elwood Melbourne and I spied this café a few years ago when passing by. This time we were in the area and stopped in for a coffee. .ordered a latte and cappa and sat on the window seats. We decided to try one of the tempting blackboard options — Rueben Sliders which cost 13.00 pp & coffee was 5.00 pp. Waited 25 mins for the coffee and then another 10 for the sliders. only two sliders? — guess I was expecting 3 and a side of chips -(we get so spoilt in the U. S) they looked tasty but were bland, Guess it depends on what you order but this place is exy. Try one of the many other cafes nearby.

Turtle Café is one of those places you go to when you want to sit outside, read a book and enjoy a lazy brunch or lunch. It’s never pumping, but has a constant buzz which is nice. Some days you just don’t want to jostle with the hipsters to get to your soy latte. It also has one of the best locations in Elwood — on the street corner with a commanding presence. With such a fab location, it’s a shame it doesn’t quite hit the mark. Coffee is OK and the couple of times I have had brunch here it was average. With a few tweaks to the menu, snappier service and more local lovin’ it could really fly. Otherwise, my preference is to stroll down the road and go to Elwood Village.

This is the café I go to when I like to get away from too much of the hustle and bustle of the busier Chapel St or Carlisle St. There’s a very relaxed temper and it’s situated on a very«slow» corner in Elwood amongst some very pretty trees and streets where I find it a good place to sit and wind down a bit. It’s like that for a lot of people I think because it’s never rowdy or overcrowded, it’s more somewhere you can feel comfortable to sit on your own and read the paper. The waitresses are really friendly and the menu is fantastic. Lots of vegetarian dishes and the latte’s are good so it’s completely satisfying. Family friendly as well where even the children have a certain respect for the tranquility of the place because they’re never running and annoying everyone but sitting quietly enjoying their babyccino reading their favourite picture book.

Some of the best calamari I have ever eaten was on this iconic corner. It was actually so good that I had to go into the kitchen and say something. I was lucky enough to find out one of the little secrets to preparing a soft calamari but unfortunately cannot share this information as it would be a breach of satisfied customer/chef confidentiality. Unfortunately the next time I came here and ordered the same dish I was let down by what could only be a different chef in the kitchen. Consistency is very important however I understand that different variables can produce different results.
