This place does great fish and chips! I usually get the flake and it is always unreal. I love the batter! The potato cakes and chips are always perfect too. Very good value for money.

When I first went into St George Fish & Chips I thought automatically thought it wasn’t going to be good. I almost didn’t eat there but I was very hungry so I had a gamble, and wow. The only thing average about this place was the chips. Fish was amazing! Really nicely cooked not oily at all and didn’t have that gross fishy smell and taste most fish n chips places do. I loved the people that were working there they took pride in customer service. If they could upgrade the chips it would be top 3 fish n chips in Melbourne for sure!

These people know a thing or two about customer service. If I have a ‘local’ fish & chipper then this is the one. Having been frequenting this place for about five years now, I’ve never had a dud experience with either the staff or the food here. The fare is standard old-style fish and chips with no pomp or bluster and I love them for that fact alone. They don’t try and force manky day-old salads at you, nor do they quibble over a small order. And they do a kid’s pack! It fuckin’ rules. It’s got a small fish and a dimmy and some chips for under a fiver! You won’t get that anywhere around these parts these days. In fact, all their deals on the back of the takeaway menu are super good. If there’s a gripe to be found here is that they(along with almost every chipper in town) still serve flake as ‘flake’ rather than labelling it as shark for the dummies. It’s a small blemish on an otherwise awesome business however. Their burgers are tops too.

A perfect place to get yourself some of that good ‘ol yellow grease into you. If you like your meals to be one colour(yellow) then this is the place to be. They cook the fish well and they are lovely to talk to. The owners. Not the fish. It’s nice to be welcomed into a place(by people). It has become a bit of a trend to around the Fitzroy area to skimp when it comes to fish and chips. Perhaps the G.F.C. hit them too and they’re trying to find ways to cut costs. Either way, the memories of paying under $ 10 for a giant amount of yellow wrapped in some butchers paper seemed to be fading. But fear not, St. Georges fish and chips are keeping that generous flame alight. They offer different packs and meals so if you’re not in the mood for fish you can stray to a souvlaki or a burger. You can also buy bottles of sauce which is very, VERY handy.
