I have to say that Buubbub used to be my favourite place to eat noodles but not anymore now. I used to give this restaurant a five-star rating but sadly it has to be let go. I came here quite a lot, and was expecting to have the same deliciousness of mergue noodle as I have had for many times but. The taste consistency seems declining until one day I found out that the food is no longer restaurant quality. This is a generous three-star rating.

Stopping in on a Thursday night for some take away, I was amazed that even tho the entire restaurant was EMPTY I was turned away as my order for one did not meet the minimum spend to put it on pay pass I find it very unusual that a business struggling to put bums on seats would turn people away to save a petty transaction fee Fortunately a restaurant further down smith street was happy to take my order and I know where I’ll go next time

No atmosphere– we had to ask for some background Music. One of the staff was on the phone«yelling» at the person on the other end– from the store room of the restaurant– this went on for quite a while. The entrees we had came out separately(prawn crackers and chicken skewers) as did the main course(potato curry and lamb curry). I would expect entrees to come together, and main dishes come together– no exceptions– simple fact of sending the food together. So while my partner had nearly finished his food(eat it while it was hot), I received my potato curry with chicken. The prawn crackers were good The chicken skewers were good The potato curry was mediocre– felt more like a hearty chicken soup you would find in Europe. The lamb curry was«ok» Will we return– we are from Sydney, so probably not.

Enter BuuBBub with caution. My boyfriend and I have had food delivered from this place a few times. And I have found them to be pretty inconsistent with their orders. Sometimes they miss an element that’s supposedly in the dish. Portions of veg/meat vary with each order. But when they get it RIGHT it’s delicious! They can be great. But sometimes fail miserably and leave me dissatisfied and frustrated with my own inability and lack of energy to just make my own f***ing ginger squid stir fry. That’s a pretty simple dish that they somehow manage to mess up maybe 40% of the time. The reason I am finally unleashing my weeks of pent up resentment towards BuuBBub on this very evening is after receiving a delivery order of my stock standard order of ginger squid stir fry that really took me by surprise. What I found was basically purple entrails and various parts of the octopus I’m pretty sure are not usually meant for human consumption. Words fail me, so I will try and attach a photo. I called them soon after and asked to speak to the chef, apparently there had been an order mix up between ‘squid’ and ‘fresh squid’. This was not squid. This was off-cuts and weird gristly bits. Amongst the abyss I found what I have guessed to be the octopus anus. If I take a step back and assess the situation objectively, emotions aside; I would probably put all of this down to the chef suffering from some form of substance abuse problem. There isn’t really any other explanation for such inconsistency and sometimes REALLY bad food. He has talent and sometimes produces truly delicious dishes. And then there are incidences like tonight. I am traumatised. What the hell, BuuBBub. You have gone too far this time. I somewhat trusted you, that has now been broken.

My boyfriend and I just ate at BuuBBuB tonight and were very satisfied with the food. It was truly amazing, we frequent thai restaurants but have never tried Burmese before. I had the Ohn-noh Khauk Swae which was AMAZING, the coconut flavors in the dish were delightful and my boyfriend had the Yellow Split-Pea Curry with coconut rice which he really enjoyed as well. The service was great as well and the food came out really quickly, we are DEFINITELY going back to this place.

BuuBBuB specializes in Thai and Burmese food. Since there a million Thai restaurants in Melbourne, I figured I’d try one of the Burmese choices on the menu. I’d never had Burmese food until coming here, so I’m not sure how BuuBBuB compares to other Burmese restaurants, but the lamb potato curry dish I ordered was just alright. The curry had the right amount of spiciness, but the lamb had a bit of a tinny taste — not sure why. Also, the portion size was a bit on the small side — I was still hungry when I left. The service was good though — our waitress was friendly and attentive. I might give this oddly-named restaurant another chance in the future and maybe try one of the other Burmese menu options.

Charming little Burmese/Thai restaurant in the quiet northern part of Smith Street. They could do a bit of work to improve the décor, make it a bit more cosy, and improve the legibility of the menus. However, the food is great, not too spicy but good flavours — they don’t try to do too many things, and do the dishes well. I had the Ohn-noh Khauk Swae, a coconut chicken noodle soup, and some really good chicken satay. Definitely worth a try and they have take-away and delivery options. There is a Thai restaurant two doors down, but BuuBBub seems to focus more on the Burmese-style dishes, so a point of difference.
