If you are into vinyl, you no doubt know about Dixons. Before JB Hi Fi and other larger chains decided to jump on the vinyl bandwagon, (and soon decide to drop stocking them), Dixons had been the place to go for second hand vinyl in Melbourne.
With everything in the store second hand, Dixons is a cross between a market stall, albeit a very big one, and a regular music store. Sure, they stock CDs, DVDs, and a selection of memorabilia, however it’s always been the vinyl that has made Dixons who they are today.
While you may be able to pick up pretty much any album you like on vinyl from ebay or many other online sellers, it’s the stuff you weren’t there to look for that makes Dixons different. There’s nothing like physically flicking through used vinyl, and the sheer joy a collector gets when they stumble across some gold is worth dealing with the at times disgruntled staff. A handy hint to avoid being treated like a lower form of life is to drop just enough hints that you know what you’re after, or better yet, just say «Hi» and get hunting. Keep in mind that these guys and girls have to deal with thieves and lowlives trying to sell off stolen items pretty much every day, so best to let them be.
Dixons makes shopping for music an actual experience, rather than just a few clicks on the computer.
