In a sea of same same chains stores, Lion In Love is a breath of fresh air. If only there was more of where this came from.

Eclectic, bohemian and very, very seventies, Lion in Love is a bright, glistening Fitzroy boutique that is absolutely packed to the rafters with a mixture of colourfully idiosyncratic clothes and impactful costume jewellery. Although interiors wise Lion in Love feels very African, as Jackie D. has noted it in fact sells a gorgeous range of clothes by Korean and Japanese designers alongside some of the sparkliest, jazziest costume jewellery you’ll find in Melbourne. Prices run predictably high at around $ 130 and upwards for a sleeveless dress and around $ 30 for a pair of diamanté chandelier earrings and even though design-wise the clothes can be a little gauche at times, Lion in Love’s range is so varied that I’d imagine there’d be something for everyone in here. If you like beautiful, playful and slightly nostalgic clothing and dazzling costume jewellery to wear alongside it, you’ll love Lion in Love.

What a gorgeous store, what a gorgeous window display, and the clothes? Yeah, they’re pretty gorgeous too. Lion in Love is right up my alley — quirky, one-of-a-kind, kooky designs from up and coming Korean and Japanese designers but without the craziness of a Harajuku girl. Imagine onesies in leopard print, maxi-dresses in an eye-catching floral, or studded cowboy boots that you had no idea you wanted or needed until you saw them. The clothes almost have an air of vintage about them in that you feel like you’re really found something special, and they are all made out of quality fabrics so you know it’s not going to fall apart as soon as you put it on. The jewellery is stunning as well — almost costume like pieces that will complement your striking outfit perfectly. Yes, the prices are high but it is definitely worth it, so be sure to check it out.
