I want to be a parrot. These guys can make it happen. There’s plenty in store, it’s a thrill to see and you’ll be in there for one thing and get distracted by the others. On price for a costume shop, it’s about $ 88 for 3 day hire. The staff are wonderful and will always try to find a way to make your costume something special and make it pop. You can even go in there with ideas and they’ll help you to piece your special thing together. Seriously good service here. A wonderful place to get the outfit part of your party planned. Or perhaps you just like to do this on weekends for no particular reason. You just stand in your unit, dressed as a different thing every week. Hey, it’s your money, spend it how you wish.

18th’s an 21st’s are almost always costume-driven. In my costuming career, I have attended parties as a Prom Queen, Cleopatra, Lady Gaga, a giant bunny rabbit, Queen Amidala and, cough, a hooker. I take my costumes seriously, and thankfully so does Rose Chong and her little Chong-ette’s. This Gertrude street haven is filled to the brim with costumes from every movie, TV show and band that you can think of and they are making new ones every day. I asked one of the Chong-ette’s how many costumes they stocked, her response? «To be honest, we don’t know. There’s no way we could possibly count all of them… but it would probably be in the thousands.» This place is Melbourne’s own DisneyLand — it’s the happiest place on Earth. So stop reading this, grab your bag and go to Rose Chong’s just to see it’s magic.

Now this may just be a rumour, but you know that singer, actress, dancer, soon-to-be mommy, all-around celeb named Beyoncé? Well, she came to Melbourne some months back, and while on tour, she heard about this costume Mecca. She was so excited with the caverns of goodies that it held, and she shut it down to shop privately, for an entire day. Rose Chong Costumes may not have opened privately for Mrs. Knowles-Carter, but they absolutely do meat the profile of a place that would cause a world-class performer to want as much time to herself in such confines. Just walk past the window, and have a look at the ever-changing(and oddly cooked-up) arrangement of mannequins en-costume, acting out some theme historic, fantasy or combination thereof. Costume parties aren’t just for kids, and Rose Chong can outfit you for anything. Absolutely. Anything. Best part? You can even hire the frocks, no purchase necessary!
