Warning: Simon Johnson is full of traps! On the outside, this looks like a very quiet, unassuming store looks like almost every other small store in Fitzroy however this could not be further from the truth. Yes, they do have a lot of nice treats for your pantry. Yes, they do have a great collection of olive oils and some great soy sauces that you just won’t find in Coles but lurking in there are traps. The wonderful staff will walk up to you and offer you a coffee. You will think«How Nice» and say yes, without even thinking but now they have you. Very shortly you will find you have picked up a basket in your free hand and are slowly filling it with coffee or chocolate. Next they might offer you some of the cheeses that they have out with a line like«You should try this, it only came in yesterday» and you will think«oh wow, how nice» and you will say«sure». You will gobble down wafer with some brie and then slowly move through another eight or so cheeses and then they will have you. Magically most of these cheeses have made it into your basket. You won’t be sure how they got there, you didn’t hear them fall in but they are there just the same. You will then suddenly find that you are back outside, on the street with a bag full of goodies and a slightly lighter wallet and three hours will be missing from your day.
