I recently went to a 2 day course next door to Delish so I had a Delish coffee and muffin both mornings. The first morning the coffee was good, the second was not. Later I found that Delish had also catered for our course. I had requested no nuts and no wheat etc and for morning tea was given a container with my name on it with a nut and seed slice. Hmmm… Doesn’t seem right! The lunch that was packed in the container looked good but again had ingredients that I couldn’t eat so I didn’t. So unfortunately like many cafes, there is little consistency and the quality of coffee is completely dependent on the barrister at the time of day you visit.

Wow I really thought I was the only person who didn’t rate Delish as highly as others, but after reading the other reviews I am clearly not. Look Delish has some very tasty food, but no tastier than I could put together very simply at home or that you could even buy in the deli section of your closest supermarket. Especially not for the prices they are charging. The main reason they get away with these prices are the location, Floreat Forum, full of wealthy stay at home mums who can definitely afford to spend their days lunching at Delish. The Coffee is ok, I’ve had better at many other places though. The salads are nice, but over-priced for what they are, the rolls and sandwiches are the same. The sweets and baked goods all look and taste good but again are over-priced compared to other places that are better. The service is friendly enough, but not great, staff look like they don’t want to be there. The worst thing is though that it doesn’t really matter what I say because Delish is so dam popular!

I’ve been to Delish twice on the first occasion I had one of their smoothies the tropical fruit cocktail; a mix of pineapple, coconut, mango and banana although the flavours were lovely the consistency was very think almost yogurt like which I didn’t like very much, I much prefer smoothies that have more of an icy taste but I guess all places do things differently. The next time I went I was getting a quick lunch and got one of their roasted vegetable and cheese toasties this was a really nice and filling meal but I was not impressed by the service at all; the staff were actually quite rude and impatient and my friend was there a few days ago and she said the same thing. So I guess I can say Delish has a wide selection of food; sandwiches, rolls, salads, baked goods and drinks that are at least $ 2 more expensive than anywhere else but not more exceptional. I hope for their sake that they’ve pulled up their socks in terms of customer service because I can’t see another reason to go to Delish as of yet unless I am in the area and don’t want anything else.

As cafes go this spot is quite expensive. I have heard it referred to as a rip-off but if you are going to pin that label on a café then it hasto be pinned on every food outlet in Perth, its the nature of the game unfortauntely. If you are going to go here then definitely get a freshly made sandwich. They will always taste better and on that occasion you can’t complain about the contents. Look, its not a bad spot and the food isn’t rotten but I can’t help but get the feeling that its pretending to be something its not.

Something about this place feels so incredibly false that I can’t bring myself to give it more than two stars, even as my girlfriend enjoys one of its sandwiches, and even as her mother enjoys one of its coffees. Something about the place feels false: it’s like a cardboard cut-out of a café or a bakery, a simulation of the actual thing, and its name strikes me as another dissimulation, too, because there’s nothing particularly delicious about the food. Why are there so many places like this in Perth? One of the things we Unilocal reviewers are told is to avoid chain stores wherever possible. We do our best, but my god: this city seems to be little more than a giant strip mall, full to bursting with such stores, and even when a store isn’t a chain store it is made to feel like one. Perth can have the chain store-like non-chain store, and it can have Delish for precisely that reason. Head around to the much ruder, much realer Scope and avoid the sense that this place is made of plastic.
