I’ve been shopping here for my fruit and veggies since they were on the lower level of the old McWhirter’s building — a good more than a decade ago — and they are still my fruit store of choice despite having moved quite a distance from the area in the last year and a half. There is always fresh, seasonal produce at reasonable prices, often the cheapest around by far — and very friendly, knowledgeable and personal service. Nick takes great pride in his store and I can’t remember him ever having taken a day off. There are some great bargains to be had, and also you will find produce you haven’t seen often in other places — like black sapote, soursop, mangosteen, prickly pear, black garlic, durian, achacha, lotus root… they also are stocking more grocery lines these days — tins of beans, hummus, baba ganoush, pasta, sauces, home made Greek sweets, some smallgoods, yoghurt, dips, fruit juices, bread, milk, eggs, nuts and seeds. Close to the Halal meat store, the Greek and Filipino grocery stores and a short walk to Chinatown. If you spend over $ 30 you will get free parking in the adjacent McWhirters parking station and there are delivery options too for the local and surrounding areas. Open every day except public holidays.
