Yesterday I learned the true magnificence of the New Globe Theatre. The times in the past I had been only in the main bar area and the little concert room to the left. Little did I know, there’s a whole orchestra hall/seated section to the right! The noise barrier could have been a little stronger as to not mix the two different acts performing, but all in all it’s super comfortable. Sweet couches, too. The door people and bar staff are always lovely, they have an actual snow globe behind the bar and had some cute decorations up. Drinks are the normal valley price — $ 8 or 9 for spirits.

Wow, I can’t tell you how blown away I am by The New Globe Theatre! Walking along Brunswick Street, it’s hidden away, and just a doorway that leads down to stairs, this opens up to a lovely little bar with generous seating, the whole venue is very neat and well presented The main room that come off the bar, is perfect for gigs and bands, this room is a very generous size it has a stage at the end of the room plus is set into two levels to allow for a lower«pit» area and then a raised area where those standing can see over to the band. The staff are very helpful and able to assist you with any needs you just need to ask I would highly recommend you pop in for a visit at the new globe theatre they have events updated on the Facebook page regularly You are also able to hire the theatre for your own events I have a feeling that this is just the start of an amazing venue that is only going to become more and more popular

This venue has improved significantly since they renovated, seen a few gigs here now and the sound is great. Even performed myself there in a burlesque recital. Drinks are cheaper then your usual live gig venue though the bar gets very busy in between sets so be prepared for a bit of a wait. The cinema is starting back up too with some great cheap movie nights coming up. Overall 4 out of 5 stars, this venue keeps improving.

The Globe is like your 30-year-old friend who still lives with his parent’s scummy basement lounge room. So, you know, awesome. It smells like a lot of people have spilt beer here, then puked a little, then maybe smoked a little something something. It’s amazing. You can buy booze and awful food and watch all the classics and sing along with them. It’s a great night out and tickets are like $ 5. Seriously, why aren’t you there right now? Some of the great movies have seen there include The Labyrinth, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and the original Transformers. That’s right, THEORIGINALTRANSFORMERS. It has 100% less gratuitous Megan Fox butt shots.

The Globe’s a smaller venue where you can get more up close and personal with some local talent or watch some cult films. When I first went to a gig here, I couldn’t shake the thought that the stage and surrounding area reminded me of a drive-in movie. People were sitting down on the floor around this space to watch the band and it looked like the scene had been lifted from Grease or something. The Globe is a bit more crude in its make up than other music venues but it’s still an enjoyable place to spend time listening to some live music. A lot of start-up and local bands play here and it’s a good place to start when you want to play some live gigs but haven’t gotten a lot of recognition yet. You can buy tickets online or on the door for live music gigs or for some cult classic movies.

The Globe is famous for its screening of cult films– the predominant one being Rocky Horror Picture show. At some point, there were rumours that this place was going to close down due to lack of funds which is really sad as it is actually a beautiful place. Thankfully, it is still putting on a few gigs here and there. The Globe is fitted inside and old cinema theatre that dates back to the 1970’s. It has a certain charm imbedded into it and looks to be in fairly good condition considering its age. If am not mistaken, there are two cinema rooms; one of which is used for gigs and the other for screenings. I came here for a a friends gig and found it to be a great venue for intimate events. The bands performed on a stage that took place of where the cinema screen would have once been as we sat on the floor in the what would once have been the seating(the chairs that were once there have been taken out). I really liked this arrangement and started questioning why I have never been here before. Honestly, I think it could be marketing, they do not seem to do much to promote their shows as well as other venues do. The Globe is a charming venue and I sure hope it does not close down as it would be a loss to the Brisbane music scene and any cult film lovers.

I’ve seen a few gigs at Globe Theatre and all of them have been great experiences. It’s a venue that attracts a lot of local and interstate bands, as well as big international acts. My favourite experience at Globe was seeing Joan of Policewoman play. She was dressed in an incredible sequin dress that — with the fine lighting at The Globe — made her look like a giant disco ball. It made the ambience, which is already very charming(the Globe is an old cinema with the seats ripped out), a lot more special. The sound was also perfect. No one seemed bothered by having to stand because they were enjoying themselves too much. That said, during sitting gigs your arse gets pretty sore sitting on those carpeted floors. It would be nice if they could throw a few cushions into the mix. But I’m a big fan of the Globe’s vibe; it’s casual without sacrificing any of the thrill that accompanies seeing live acts. And the staff there are all incredibly nice, and volunteers, which gives you more of a reason to like them.

The Globe has been around for a very, very long time and I’m not sure if describing it as a music-venue is accurate. Sure, a number of artist play music at the Globe but it’s not renown for it’s musical attributes. The sound is fairly decent, being a natural theatre(with the seats ripped out) and the stage setup allows a fairly clear view of what to see. What the Globe does very well is allow you to witness something — be it a play, a movie night or, commonly a musical offering. Just as long as you are content with sitting and not standing, then you should be fine. This is the biggest draw back of the Globe as a venue — since there are no seats, you’re forced to stand(which can be difficult as the room is on a downward slope. Otherwise, the venue is a rich part of Brisbane history but is often utilised by the sub-genres of a particular discipline. Drinks are relatively cheap and the décor is interesting, in a run-down sort of way. Recommend seeing something there you know, otherwise you could be wasting a portion of your night.

I’ve been here to see two musician friends perform on two separate occasions, and both times I had a great time. The interior design is uniquely beautiful, and the volunteer staff are all outgoing and friendly, well worth taking the time to have a chat to. In the main bar area, there are a couple of recliners and two couches — one of which is set on bricks — and a few bar tables. There is a pool room and a cinema off to one side, and on the other side is a stage with the full lighting setup, including a strobe light. The sound system is enough to knock you over, and the guy that runs it seems to have a good idea of what he’s doing. The one thing that a lot of people are surprised about is the fact that, upon entry you have to fill in a little book, similar to an RSL club. The reason for this is because there is no other venue like the Globe Theatre in Queensland, and Liquor Licensing Queensland didn’t know what type of license to give them. I’m not complaining, though, because the drinks are fairly cheap compared to most of Brisbane’s clubs or other music venues. The Globe Theatre is definitely a place for everyone to have a look at. Check out their website to see what’s coming up, or just rock up on a Friday or Saturday night. If you want to go out, but don’t feel like going clubbing, definitely check out the Globe. It’s pretty much opposite The Cabaret on Brunswick Street, not too far from the train station. The staff are all volunteers, too, so make sure you leave a good tip.
