History

Established in 2009.

Trash Monkey was created to fill the void of HO — HUM shopping experiences and boring retail stores. The first store was officially opened on the Gold Coast with the Brisbane store opening just over a year later.

Online store was also created to cater to those who love Trash Monkey but can’t make it to the stores.

The stores do not pigeon hole people to one style or genre and are born out of the need to respect customers unique individuality. The stores encourage kustom kulture, burlesque, pinup and the entire alternative scene by supporting the artists, people and offering them a place that they can feel welcome.

Trash Monkey is a team effort and it is an alternative and unique way of life for all our crew. We employ fashion designers, burlesque dancers, pinup stars, alternative models, musicians, artists, scientists, hip hop gals, skater dudes and so much more… Usually they have coloured hair and a few tattoos, some pretty rad piercings. but we have the occasional ‘cleanskin’ because of course… we don’t descriminate at the Monkey!

Trash monkey is the perfect blend of alternative clothing and accessories around, vintage & rockabilly dresses fill half the store while the other half is the amazing mix of drug enduced patterns and my little Pony merch.
Six inch my little pony boots? Got em
Tiedye? Got it
Aliens and metal merch? Oh yes, they’ve got it!
Go and check it out even if your not into expressing that crazy side of yourself through clothes, just go and have a look at this insane amount of awesome crammed into a shop.
Plus If you don’t feel like making the trip into the valley, check out their online store! It’s amazing!
Also, it’s next door is my favourite café, so… You know… Two birds…

Gold Coast’s Trash Monkey have recently opened up a store in Brisbane’s China Town Mall. Perfectly suited to the mish-​mash of colour and style of the Valley, Trash Monkey stocks an array of vintage and alternative clothing.
The store has been nicely renovated and is a pleasure to browse. There is plenty to look at and the range is worth looking at regardless of your personal style. As a bonus, the store is open until 7pm Monday to Wednesday and Sunday, and open until 9pm Thursday to Saturday.

Stepping inside this store is like you got in the DeLorean and went back half a century. Personally, I love the couch in the store.
The clothing is a combination of vintage, secondhand and new clothing that has been styled similar to what went around back in the day. I know a lot of punk princesses, and they all come here when they’re in need of a new shirt or skirt. I can see why. Another of my friends has a slightly strange obsession with cowboy boots, and she spent at least ten minutes standing over the display, drooling.
Personally, I love the dresses, and wouldn’t hesitate in clearing out my savings account just to own a few of them. The manager was friendly to talk to, as well, and provided me with some information on the clothes and how certain items come from local designers.
Plus, they had the boots I was looking for.

Best shop! If you’re looking for something a bit different, this is a great place. Not mainstream, there are clothes and shoes that will take you back an era or three. But it’s not all about the past; there’s also of fun stuff to take you a degree or two away from the throng in the now. This is where we go for brighter than bright hair dye, too.

There is something alluring about vintage clothes and accessories. It seems to me that the 50s and early 60s had the perfect blend of classy feminine clothing, that makes me want to go all Mad Men or Grace Kelly around town. Some of the clothing at Trash Monkeys oozes this classy sophistication that I yearn for. They stock a whole range of clothing and accessories from your 50s vintage inspired dresses that I was just talking about to 80s glam rock outfits. They pride themselves in stocking rockabiliy, pin-​up, burlesque, punk, steampunk, victorian, lolita and queer gear as well.
The store is chocablock full of bits and pieces and you can easily spend your time sifting through it all. Everything here is quite unique and definitely different from your average fashion store. The staff are funky and great for giving real and unbiased advice. They won’t let you out of the store in something that looks bad and they are totally happy to have a chat or let you just browse your hours away. The store is also open late so it is easy to go and check it out after work or before a dinner out in the Valley. It is hard to really describe everything on offer here so my best suggestion is just to check it out!
