Big commerce outside for the BEST fish and chips, have been awarded many times. Can say dont waste your money for it, plain, not good and quite expensive for fast food style restaurant

The older I get, the more I’m inclined to avoid oily, greasy food that is encased in batter, but once in a while I indulge… and then regret it… with a smile on my face. Kailis is over-hyped(well done to the PR department) and it kind of seems weird because the view from the wooden deck is nothing very special as you are(guess what) looking at the Kailis fishing vessels on the(guess what) the Kailis Wharf! However, if I am going to have fish and chips, this is the place I will go to. The choice is huge and the portions massive. No wonder the seagulls hang around as it is nigh on impossible to finish everything. However, I do resent their ridiculous penny-pinching mentality in this day and age when you have to pay more for ketchup and tartare sauce. Not only are you contributing to my anger, you are being immensely environmentally unfriendly by cranking out thousands of unnecessary plastic tubs that will inevitably take 1000s of years to degrade. With increasing public focusing on tons of plastic damaging the oceans, Kailis ought to lead from the front, especially as it makes a living from the ocean. That being said, I do think Kailis provides a great meal with friendly, helpful staff. I even ended up buying some barramundi from the fish counter before leaving because it was exceedingly well priced. Best price in South Perth that tends to vary from $ 20 a kilo and up to $ 59 per kilo… on the same day… depending upon where you shop.

Average at best. Everything was mass produced. Save your money. Love my local and this is nothing like your local. Scenery is good but food very very average.

Great fish and chips at a decent price. Generous portions, light, flaky fish and not at all greasy. Hubby doesn’t do fish, but liked the chicken sandwich. Great dessert selections, including gelato. Lots of seagulls wait to pounce as soon as you start to leave, but the staff here immediately clear tables making it less menacing than some other restaurants on the marina.

I remember as a kid heading to the Freo fishing boat harbour for the all you can eat smörgåsbord seafood feast at Lombardos. It was such an amazing thing. These days I am slightly less enthusiastic about trawling up our ocean floors to feed our insatiable appetite. So we like to choose quality local fish to eat on occasion and really appreciate it. Of the choices, Kailis rated best by Unilocalers down at the harbour and so who were we to argue, off we went for a feed with our east coast mates — a genuine Freo experience. Unfortunately our guests ordered chicken and tassie salmon so perhaps the gesture was lost on them but my husband and I ordered local snapper, chips and salad. I was disappointed that the dressings and sauces were all single serve longlife options in single use plastic. Where was the homemade sauciness love? My snapper was a tad overcooked. Other than those gripes we did enjoy our fish and had a good time people watching — such an awesome culturally diverse crowd.

Every now and then I would drive all the way from rivervale to Freo for fish and chips. Fish and chips it’s probably something that we be able to find almost everywhere that we go but I prefer kailis brothers simply because they sell raw ingredients there. Every time I went down there, I always comes back with fresh produce. This time I’ve got myself some scollop. Which is very fresh that time. Based on the food. Personally I think it’s a bit over priced, But they have their reason. Their serving of chips is really overwhelming. I mean in my head… Fish and chips means equal portion of fish as well as equal portion of chips, but for them it’s 1 part fish, 2 part chips. It’s insane! I just want fish, in a batter, deep fried to perfection. Not too much chips please. The REAL crazy thing is that, if you buy fish only, it work out to be more expensive than a fish and chips bundles. To maximize revenue, they might need to talk to their finance department. I mean… Where is the sense in that? Really?

I’ve been coming here for years and I have been disappointed with quality and quantity on my last few visits. Noally I go for the prawns and chips-like reliable old clothes it’s a choice that has served me well. This time I had the grilled fish of the day. In terms of taste it was 100% and the fish was fresh. The chips were hot and crisp but the surprise stand out was the salad. There is a choice and I went with the coleslaw. It’s not a traditional coleslaw but was nearly the best part of the meal. My dining companion’s choice of squid and chips was well cooked but nothing outstanding. The tartare sauce was nothong like a traditional sauce but quite nice once you decide not to compare it. Now this all sounds positive right? So why the average score? Well, quite frankly its the cost that lets this down. Im not commenting on the ambience because thats not why I come here. However for a tad under $ 30 I expect more than a smallish piece of fish. Bulking the meal out with chips doesnt change the feeling that you arent getting a fair deal and thats why the score. By the time we added drinks it was over $ 50 for two and given what you get for that, I think they can do better.

Ordered two pieces of fish and chips for a quick dinner, and whilst the service was at first very slow, they eventually opened a second register and served us. The wait was reasonable and within expectations for takeaway. The disappointment occurred when we looked at our food and saw two tiny pieces of fish and a handful of chips. The serve would have suited one person with a big appetite perfectly, but two adults wanting dinner– it wasn’t enough. Result turned out to be two not quite satisfied people who paid a lot for a little and had to stop for dessert on the way home.

We went to the Fremantle Seafood Festival today and decided to lunch at Kailis Fish Market Café. The place was packed but we managed to get a table. As we had already eaten at the festival we decided to share a Seafood Delight and delightful it was. Perfectly cooked seafood and chips, what more could you ask for? The service was quick and friendly which is fantastic considering how busy it was. My only complaint is that although the staff were very efficient in clearing and wiping the tables ours was still sticky. Maybe they need to look at the cleaning products they are or aren’t using. As the rating says, I’m a fan.

You know it’s good if the locals are eating there. Busy with locals and tourists alike, this place really does have good fish in chips. Mine where a little greasy for my taste but the chips were nice and crisp. Loved that they had all sorts of other options like grilled salmon and squid. The food is good but the view is spectacular. Worth the effort just to sit out by the waterfront and enjoy a sunset dinner. Sort walk to the Maritime Museum, there is a great pathway next to the restaurant for a scroll along the coastline. Definitely will be back if I’m lucky enough to see WA again.

Am in Fremantle for the first time and loving it. When the wife suggested fish and chips for lunch we headed over to Kaili’s and sat by the water. Lovely location. The food is ordered at the counter and you get a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready for you to collect. I had the fried snapper with chips. The fish was beautifully cooked but the batter was not very crisp and let it down. The chips were average too. Overall, not bad but at $ 16 not cheap. Fremantle is quite expensive it seems so maybe it’s an average price but it seems like you’re paying for the lovely location. It is also licensed which is a plus.

Fish & chips by the seaside is pretty much mandatory when you’re married to an Englishman. The selection of dishes is really good — I opted for«seafood delight» and he had«snapper & chips». With a small coke and tartar sauce it came to a shocking price of $ 40.50. For that I expect perfection. Sadly the overall experience was a huge disappointment. Whilst the fish was perfectly cooked — everything else was subpar. The batter was thin and not crispy at all, the tartar sauce was positively the worst I’ve ever had(I suggest they Google a recipe to at least try to get close to what it should be like) and the chips were soggy. Even the seagulls weren’t interested! Also I hated the announcement of ready meals over the speaker system — it gave a school dinner hall atmosphere to the place. The beeping buzzer was bad enough. I think the people who have rated it high are those who got fresh seafood from the«fish market» part of the business.

Natural oysters were slimy and tasted like bad breath. The blue swimmer crab was tasty but the tomato sauce ended up all over my shirt and not in my mouth. The bbq scallops/squid/fish kebab was cold and well below average. I wouldn’t be surprised if I throw up from the oysters later on today.

Stopped here this past week on my first visit to Fremantle. Tried several dishes – the BBQ lobster was a bit disappointing: underseasoned. Could really use some butter basting and a sprinkling of herbs to really improve the taste. Very expensive for what you get – only included a small side salad. Also tried the fish and chips with an extra order of prawns. Prawns were ok, but a bit watery. Fish was about average with a crust that easily peeled off. Not the best I’ve had in the area. I really expected better seafood from a restaurant next to the water.

For fish and chips in Freo look no further than Kailis. It can get very busy, I was here on a Saturday night in Summer and it was packed. The packs available cater more so to individual needs so I got the Tropical Pack which included 1 x fish, chips, a pineapple fritter and a deep fried banana! This cost $ 14.95 The fish is of high quality(not fishy, or processed or grey!) They also give u a little complimentary Tar Tar sauce :) We took ours down to the beach across the road, a calm beach with lots of sand as well as a deck so u can sit and enjoy your food whilst watching the sunset. Much nicer than eating it there :)

Received a tip from a fellow traveler that Kailis’ was the place to go for Fish and Chips in Fremantle and he was right! Delicious, crispy and tender fish filets done to perfection. «Chicken salt» condiment is a nice add. No AC though so if it’s hot outside it is hot inside!

A recent craving for seafood and sea air brought us down to Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour. A sunny day and an event on the Cappuccino Strip rendered Freo busy and vibrant — it can really feel like a long way from Perth sometimes; in a good way. We ordered the BBQ platter which came with half a grilled lobster, squid, fish kebabs, hot chips and cold prawns and oysters. Plenty of sauces are provided also. Unfortunately, despite the cost, the platter was a little disappointing. The lobster was chewy and the oysters were far from the best we tried. Orders are taken inside at the fresh seafood counter and fish and chips are available also.

As a tourist with a penchant for eating weird stuff, it was my job to try the fish & chip ice-cream at Kailis once we’d finished lunch further down the pier. How has no other review mentioned this stuff yet? It should be the stuff of legend. The serving staff said that most people try a sample but then get a «normal» flavour. I couldn’t let that happen, so I ordered a(small) tub of it and then proceeded to get it all over my hands as they gave me way too much and it was a hot day and my mouth couldn’t keep up with the melting. Having said that, it was a surprisingly delicious flavour(though I couldn’t really identify it as tasting fishy OR chippy). Would eat again.

Excellent fish and chips place. From the first try you can tell that ingredients are fresh, food is deliciuous. After we(myself and my family) tried eating here for the first time, this is our new favorite fish and chips place. I would recommend trying catch of the day, grilled.

For those searching for fish and chips along the fishing boat harbour in Freo you are spoiled for choice, with a bunch of options withing about 50 metres of each other. For me Kailis always has been the standout. I have come here with my family since time began and have never been disappointed or come away even the slightest bit hungry. There’s a heap of seating outside — although you have to keep your eye out for the seagulls helping themselves. There’s a great selection of food to order, my personal faves are the fish burger and the squid rings. There is also a fresh fish counter at the far end where you can get the best of the Kailis seafood selection. Beer and wine is available and there is a sweets counter for dessert and tea and coffee, but realistically i never make it that far as I’m too full! Great food and a chilled out atmosphere is a winner for me.

This place has more sentimental value for me than culinary prowess. As a child, this would often meeting be the meeting place for my relatives of the north and relatives of the south to congregate and enjoy a meal at. Now, as a semi-adult, I can’t help but smile every time I walk past Kailis. Essentially, fish and chips is just that, fish and chips. Not too much goes into it, and I find people who debate the merits of various fish and chips establishments around town very boring. Kailis provides a wide variety of food and drink, at a good price in a stunning location. What more do you people want?
