There seems to be something wrong here — a café inside a fitness centre? I don’t know about you, but when I think of café’s I think of muffins and coffee, long lunches in the sun with glasses of wine, hungover breakfasts… fitness does not usually top my list of associations. Despite this, the V Café does a cracking job. Located inside Virgin Active, it is less bacon and egg roll with extra sauce coz I drank my weight in sangria last night, more I just did sunrise yoga and now I need a cleansing juice… The V Café takes all of my pre-existing notions about cafes and what they represent, and turns them upside down. The menu is extremely creative, fresh and healthy — innovations in healthy eating are seemingly endless here. Every week, there’s a new sign«Pre-order a gluten free salad wrap» one day, «Try our new organic smoothies» the next. The café is kept busy by a constant stream of gym goers at most times of the day. At eight am, there are business people working the I-pad post workout. At eight pm, there are twentysomethings checking their Facebooks on the freely-accessible Mac Computers. Given its diverse market, the V Café has a diversified range of healthy foods. For the yummy mummy yoga types, there are freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. For the boys(and girls, of course — no sexism here) in the weights room, there are protein bars and shakes. For the busy people of corporate Australia, there are pre-made sandwiches and wraps to scarf down at their desks at lunchtime. And for those amongst us who subscribe to the«I just went to the gym so I can eat whatever I damn well please» school of thought, there is coffee, tea and hot chocolate. — Show quoted text —
