The Nag’s Head Hotel

Nag’s Head is your higher class local pub (if such a designation existed).
There are seats all around the bar area, as well as a nice open space that you can watch the footy on a projector. That seems to be a theme on the weekends, as there is a big sports crowd to check out the game on the big screen or all the little screens scattered around the place.
The drinks are a bit dearer than your average local and they do some nice cuisine (there is a bistro outback).
Upstairs there is a functioning pool table and a not so great juke box (more sound quality rather than choice of songs). There are also lounges in the upstairs area, should you want to getaway from the sports commentary when the big game is playing.

Love the old man pub vibe. Hate the $ 8.30 schooners of James Squire. Squires people! Squires!

Great food with vegetarian options and massive big screen tv for sports. We had our work function here too and it was awesome. Amazing function rooms with a set menu.

How to describe the Nag’s Head? Not quite old-​man; maybe old world? Takes me back to my days as a London barmaid. It’s comfortable and worn, but in a charming sort of way, with the bar placed in the middle. Random booths, old leather couches, and bar stools line the place, with the bistro out back.
Beers are priced moderately, and there’s a lunch special everyday of the week. BF loves their pint of Guinness but at $ 10 it’s a bit much. Dinner specials during the week look decent, and there’s a good trivia night on Wednesday nights with free bar vouchers up for grabs and $ 11.50 schnitzels on offer.
But IMO the best thing about this place is their twice-​cooked pork belly dish. Can we stop for a second and just give thanks to almighty God for His gift of pork belly? All pork lovers know that for pork belly to be truly scrumptious it must be cooked properly. It’ll take awhile for your food to come out but its well worth the wait. Hot damn was that pork ever crispy and delicious! A massive portion served up with both a brown gravy and pear sauce, garnished with caramelised pears, crispy onion-​y type crumbles, and served with tasty (yet perhaps a tad salty) mashed potato with steamed spinach mixed in. This could truly be the tastiest meal I’ve had in all of Sydney, and the best value for money at $ 22.50.
BF has had the Mexican chicken burger, which was ok, and the lasagne, which is a massive portion and really very good.
The staff are friendly enough, the atmosphere and ambiance are that of a great traditional pub, and the pork belly blows my mind. What’s not to like?

I have the weirdest fetish for old man pubs.
I love them. Can’t get enough of them. And I’m terrified that in 20 years time they won’t exist except in the imaginations of those old enough to remember them and have drunk in them, drunk to get splattered, drunk terribly, furiously, sadly or ecstatically shouted the bar after your quinella came in on the nags, drowned in one’s cups and ordered a chicken schnitty or chips and gravy from the bistro and ate it in silence while suspiciously eying off the other patrons and wondering which ones you could beat in a fight if it came down to a knock-​down drag-​out blue outside and someone had to eat tarmac.
We’re sterilising the things that matter and we don’t even know it. I never want to see this happen to the Nags Head Hotel because it rules, from the front counter bar with its sagging regulars and barflys nursing their morning brews to the (really quite excellent) bistro out back that serves up gourmet grub and has a wicked line in specials.

Decent pub, nothing fancy or spectacular, but good for a quick bite and drinks. Came here before heading to the Roxbury for some improv comedy. It was $ 10 steak night but didn’t really feel like eating a big heavy steak. I ordered the tandoori chicken salad and my friend got the Thai Beef Salad. Considering it was pretty empty for aTuesday night, the food took a little while. While we waited we had some Rose and they weren’t skimpy and filled it up to the top, which was great.
Our food came and my salad came with a generous portion of meat but not enough salad for me. The yogurt dressing was nice. My friend’s Thai beef salad looked good and had actual thick pieces of steak in it.
Overall a decent meal — $ 18 which is okay, and generous pouring of wine.

Came to this place few times for some food and quick drink with friends.
During the week is usually quite. But the food is good and not really expensive. You can always find something on the menu.
PS my glass of wine was really full. Right up to the top. I did like that :)

The Nags Head Head is a brilliant pub! The renovations are very impressive and the outdoor areas will be great with the warmer weather approaching. The hotel retains much of the traditional charm that many pubs these days lack.
There is a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and the food is exceptional… quite a suprise to find in a pub. I enjoy $ 10 steak night on tues, trivia on wed and the acoustic acts on fri/​sat nights… That makes me sound worryingly addicted to this place doesn’t it?!

One has to walk past the Nag’s Head to get to the Roxbury, and I’ve never found it particularly appealing. Although it’s architecturally lovely, there are usually a handful of old dudes smoking away outside, and given its name I assume it’s a race-​horsey focussed type of establishment.
I ended up here at the end of a long drinking afternoon next door. The handful of guys fixated on the screen showed absolutely no interest in my friend and I as we staggered around to the other side of the bar and pulled up a couple of barrels. We were served by the pleasant guy behind the bar and the patrons continued to ignore us (this is a good thing!) as we took stupid photos with the huge blowup racehorse in knee-​high socks that was plonked in the middle of the room.
Good times!

The Nags Head in Glebe is a great little pub if you’re holding a function, feeling hungry, want to listen to some live music or even just want a drink!
Upstairs is a small balcony which is a nice spot to have a drink as you over look the street plus a bar area generally reserved for functions.
Downstairs you’ll find a nice bistro where you can enjoy a meal in the courtyard or the small eating area inside next to it. Or you may prefer to sit where it all happens in the bar as you walk in.
There’s generally a good buzz in the place and depending when you go you may even see a live musician or two piece band. You surely couldn’t fit any more than two people on that unbelievably small stage!
I’ve got no idea why it’s called the Nags Head though. I must ask one day!

This popular pub/​bar/​function centre is well known among Sydneyites, and for good reason. A great place to come and watch the football, play snooker, catch up with friends or host a party. They have a spacious upstairs function room with its own bar and snooker table, and plenty of sofas and seating. Empty barrels double up as tables to perch drinks on, and plenty of rustic wood gives the pub a very traditional, cosy feel. I only sampled a limited selection of their food, but what I did try — crisp pizzas and chunky wedges with sweet chilli and cream cheese — was simple but delicious. It is well priced, and throughout the week they offer ‘Weekly Specials’ — $ 10 pizza/​steak/​schnitzel/​fish & chips/​roasts. Well worth a visit if you’re after simple pub grub, cold pints and a warm welcome.

I first went to this charmingly dingy pub back when I was still «interviewing» to move into a flat down the road. The boys wanted to bet on the horses that Saturday afternoon, so down we went for some schooners and shit-​shooting. One beer turned into several, as it does, and before I knew it, the dinner hour had crept up.
Taking a little wander around this place had me a little confused. It seemed to have several different sections and compartments, kind of like a little girl’s doll house– only boozier. Upon first wander, I found the pokies, the main pub, the full size restaurant in the back, and upstairs lounge fitted with additional bar and outside terrace.
The boys had dinner and as the sun started to sink outside, I realized I had better get myself home. I said my goodbyes and turned to walk through the main pub. DISCLAIMER: I must apologize in advance because this is going to sound lame and douche-​y and if you’re male you can likely stop reading now– but it MUST be noted that as I walked by the bar and turned the corner, I found myself smack bang in the middle of the MOST ATTRACTIVE group of guys I might have ever laid my eyes on. Although this is not your typical bar review content, it was noteworthy for me and thus, I thought I’d share. Anyway, long story short (too late), I now think of the Nags Head as the secret establishment that houses the hot men. And while it’s never been quite as good since, it usually doesn’t completely disappoint.
