If you are after a quick and easy Ramen joint, Ajisen is conveniently located at the Kingsway Strip in Glen Waverley. Ajisen has assorted ramen, donburi, entrees and snacks. If you do choose a ramen and have a bit of room I would suggest you try a samurai combo(add $ 6.5 and get an entrée and a tea) or the Sumo Combo which is what I usually go for(add $ 7.00 for a junior donburi and green tea). I enjoy coming here if I want a no frills noodle experience but for the picky ramen eaters I think you will have to give it a go to see if the flavours are authentic enough for you! I will come back again after my trip to Japan and hopefully will have better insight of what real ramen tastes like!

I have been to this ajisen ramen branch twice, and both times have disappointed me. The first time, my noodle soup(though tasty) was only lukewarm. This wasn’t a big issue as I just asked the waitress to take it back and heat it up a bit more, but you’d usually expect your soup steamy hot rather than mildly warm to begin with. I also did not enjoy the gyozas they served here, but I am a big fan of dumplings and can be quite finicky about them. The second time I went with my sister(her soup was steamy hot), I ordered the eggplant. I had ordered the eggplant the first time too which was fine, but this time is was just wrong. It was so incredibly oily, I felt terribly sick afterwards that for a few months after it I wouldn’t touch eggplant because it reminded me of my experience here. Even to this day, I am sill cautious that if I eat an eggplant it will cause a relapse of that day(eggplant ‘was’ one of my favorite vegetables). So my personal experiences here haven’t been so great(bad luck?), but others I know of have been thoroughly satisfied. The taste and noodles are definitely on par with the ajisen franchise overseas.
