I first hate the new atm service, for gamblers only, so they can only withdraw a certain amount, is frustrating, needs an atm/outside somewhere, to avoid this. The place is just too small handful of machines, with big gaping steps inbetween areas and a tiny smoke area! Worst design, scummy feel. I got out like $ 100, just to get started, had only 2 pints, was waiting at bar for service for ages, was waiting to be seated, so i started looking at the menu, as i was still waiting on the bar, i asked to pay and for another pint, but then as i was divulging the menu/and what to have, the boss says, i think youve had enough, immediately kicked me out! I was shocked at the treatment, I WILLNEVERGOBACK, Humiliated. Worst service ever! There is none! I didnt even get to be seated or eat!!!

What a dive. The bistro said ‘wait to be seated’. After 10 minutes we sat ourselves. The food was average at best. Bar service with 5 people in the queue took about 2 mins per person. The toilets were as bad as a train station late at night & it was only 8:30pm. Not recommended at all.

This place is called ‘the Spew’ for a reason… As this pub is located near my old high school, I used to know heaps of people who would frequent the place well into their twenties, and I have to say… I don’t get it. The Mountain View is as daggy as you would imagine a suburban TAB to be. The music is bad(both the DJ’s and the bad karaōke-style cover bands that they book), and the vibe is gross. The crowd is also a mix of really young, fresh out of high school kids who are there to get absolutely shit faced and middle-aged people. It’s just a bit of a strange combo. This place is not my cup of tea, but then again, no TAB is(so I’m giving two stars to be fair).

I’ve been here quite a few times since I’ve been in the area. It’s got pretty much everything you expect from a pub in the suburbs. The pokies, the bar, the really quite nice bistro, etc. I usually grab a parma, which is well presented and the serving size is fairly generous. It’s not terribly expensive either. I’ve also seen a few bands here over the years. I saw the Whitlams here a few years ago — maybe it was lots of years ago. Either way, the atmosphere was exactly as it should be. It seems to attract a good crowd for live bands. I’ve been to places where the crowd would just talk through the music and you couldn’t enjoy it. Haven’t had that here. Anyway, it’s a nice place, it’s near the Glen, and if you’ve had a few drinks here and it’s late, Maccas is right across the road.

A very long standing pub in the area, the Mountain View has been a favourite of many in Glen Waverley for decades. Over that time, it has reinvented itself regularly to keep up with the changing demographics of the area. However, it is still generally known as The Spew to any and all that live nearby. That name isn’t one given because of anything that the pub itself has done wrong, but more because virtually every local has had more than one big night that they’ve overdone it at the bar. It’s a nice place to have a drink after shopping at The Glen(diagonally opposite), or better yet, having a drink while your girlfriend or wife is shopping at The Glen. If you’re after a meal, the menu is typical Melbourne counter meal fare, which is to say that it is largely traditional, but with a few Asian dishes too. The food itself is pretty good. The presentation is nice, it tastes pretty good, and the servings are large. My favourite is the chicken schnitzel. Prices are around $ 20-$ 30 for most mains. There are good deals for seniors, with meals for $ 12.
