I just need to say — sucks to be lactose intolerant when there is an ice creamery like this! Fortunately(for them) the rest of my dining partners were able to make the most of it. There are around 30 flavours to choose from and you can get it in a cup or chocolate dipped or plain waffle cone — yum! Flavors sampled by our party include salted caramel, strawberry and chocolate — I didn’t hear anything for the period of time it took them to eat their ice cream and I took that silence as a state of pure bliss. They also sell fresh, as in just cooked, hot cinnamon donuts — get there now and buy some!!!

I’ve always loved Royal Copenhagen for it’s delicious flavours as well as it’s toppings; cream, syrup, nuts and sprinkles. I love the coffee, mint chip, Snickerone and Jaffa — although not necessarily all together. Great location for an ice creamery, grab you cup/cone or waffle basket and head down to the pier for one of the most relaxing ice cream walks in Adelaide.

I have been here many times — because every time I go to the bay — this shop is ALWAYS packed! I like the icecream. But I think it does have a tendancy to be a little overrated. I dont think it is worthy of all the hype it receives. Dont get me wrong — the ice cream is lovely — and the staff are great — but the only thing that keeps me going back here time and time again — over other ice cream places at the bay — is the fact that they have chocolate and caramel fudge, and various kinds of sprinkles that are available for you to put on your icecream — it brings out the inner child in me and I cant help myself :) :) Well worth the visit, even if it is just becasue you can add fudge and sprinkles to your hearts content :)

Okay, I admit it, I had Ice Cream as my ‘second breakfast’ today. I am a bad. bad person. As a child I recall Royal Copenhagen as being the ultimate treat — delicious ice cream in a wide array of flavours, topped with cream and your choice of caramel or chocolate fudge. Not much has changed, except the cream is no longer complimentary — but I think I’m okay with that. My boyfriend is a huge fan as he loves the caramel fudge — often we’ll stand there and add more and more to our ice creams as we eat it, without any judgement from the staff. There are some delicious flavours, today I had the white choc and caramel and a nutella but in the past I’ve always loved the jaffa choc orange — they lose a star because last time when I had this choice, I only got one Jaffa in the whole scoop *sad face*. Jaffa’s aside, the waffle cones are great — and they offer to dip the top in chocolate for free if you’ like! Open til late, if you drop by later in the day, the fudge station tends to be a bit messy but apart from this, the ice cream is great!

It feels like eating cream. cream that is iced. not low fat cream either. I’m not a fan, it smells like a mixture of Charlesworth nuts and the Royal Show in here and I’m not sure how anyone could be ok with this. The product range is pretty run of the mill, you got your vanillas and your chocolates and your strawberry’s. The free topping thing is meant to be a selling point but to me it’s so unhygeinic, because it’s self serve. there’s chocolate sauce smeared all over the walls, exaggeration yes but it could very well happen and this disgusts me. What also disgusts me is waffle cones. Skip Copenhagen and go get some gelati from across the square. You can keep your free nuts!!!

Royal Copenhagen has to be one of the slickest looking Ice Cream shops in the Bay area. It has a large selection of amazing flavours that are actually made on site. I also know that they use real quality ingredients in their flavours, the Nutella has real Nutella in it, Cookies and Cream is made with Oreos and Jaffa Orange with whole Jaffas. The staff are always fresh faced, usually female and attractive, in their trendy black shirts. I think George,(the owner) must pick the staff to entice the males of the community to come and buy ice cream. For the children and young at heart, there is a self serve topping bar which is very popular, personally, I like my ice cream unadulterated. My favourite flavour here would have to be the name sake: Royal Copenhagen, it is a sheer delight for the taste buds; honeycomb and butterscotch — yum! They also do really good shakes, one of my favourites being Old English Toffee flavour. For entertainment while waiting for your ice cream you can often watch one of the staff sitting at the large waffle making machine preparing your fresh cones.

Like Andersen’s, its close competitor on Jetty Rd, Royal Copenhagen do waffle cones. They just don’t seem quite as fresh as the other. In my opinion this ice-creamery is still very nice and not many would complain if one of their confections was thrust into their hand by a well-meaning significant other. It’s just not as good as some, there’s something missing but I can’t put my finger on what? Maybe it’s the love? Anyway what they do have is free self-serve topping(which makes me happy coz I want lots & lots of topping) and the Banana Fudge flavour, which is like a grown up version of Barney Banana’s(for those old enough to remember them). They also have magnficent hot cinnamon donuts made fresh while you wait. Also a side note re the opening hours: it’s 9am on sunny days &11am on chilly days ’til late’ with no official closing time. In a nutshell — you could do far worse!
