Sheraton Mirage Resort & Spa Gold Coast

Well if Christopher Skase were still alive (the hotel’s original developer), I’m sure he’d be pretty disappointed with the way this place has gone. In its heyday, it was a beacon for sophisticated, upscale travellers and while it is still an absolutely beautiful resort with arguably the best location in town, it is ruined by policies favouring families over everybody else. If you’re looking for a romantic, peaceful or luxurious getaway, forget it as this place is all about children. Herds of running, jumping, shouting children. They have full access to every part of the resort: all of the pool (including swim-​up bar), the Pearl Bar… basically, apart from your room, there isn’t a square inch you can retreat to to get away from the screaming masses of ratbag children. Of course it’s hard to blame the kids as parents these days find it unfashionable to exercise much if any control over their offspring, feeling entitled to let them disturb others with their presence and bad behaviour no matter the location or time of day or night.
So if you’re a self absorbed, inconsiderate and antisocial parent who couldn’t care less about how your actions or irresponsible parenting could affect others around you, bring your family to the Sheraton Mirage where they’ll happily pander to your every selfish whim. If you’re a couple without children or anyone looking for a lovely, peaceful place to stay on the Gold Coast, please let me know if you find somewhere!
PS. The hotel is currently hosting an exhibition of the works of David Bromley. If the art wasn’t boring and commercial enough to make you vomit, it would at least make you question why a family resort would think it’s appropriate to have a wall full of tits on display…

Very beautiful hotel. The hotel is clean, but our room had ants all over the bathroom. The staff was helpful with that. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great when we went so the pool was really cold and the beach was windy. They only have 1 resturaunts beside room service. It’s a buffet but it serves mostly seafood, which I don’t eat. The location is good and right across the street is like a mall.

Absolutely beautiful resort! A strong 4.5 stars
Walking distance to Sea World there is almost no reason to leave the resort. With a direct private entrance to the beach and walking distance across the bridge to amazing shopping and restaurants you don’t even need a car. If you really need to get out, I suggest taking a taxi rather than forking out all the cash for a rental.
The rooms are beautiful by far the best bath tub and shower and this is the only hotel I’ve been to where the elevators have a luxe leather bench to sit and rest your weary feet for all of 2 floors. Yes, I made it a point to sit down every time…
At first I was kind of bummed there was only 1 hotel dinning restaurant which is a buffet in addition to the Oasis pool bar but just across the bridge and within a 2 minute walk there are a ton of restaurants on the water. Therefore I decided it wouldn’t kill me to get out of the hotel– bad feeling gone!
The pool has a swim up bar, the only thing I do wish is that there was an outdoor spa. This would have been nice in GC’s winter of 68 – 70 degrees/​18−20C :)
I can’t wait to come back and stay here again!
