Glenferrie Railway Station

Just love old railway stations especially in suburban Melbourne. Sadly they are slowly coming to be a thing of the past. Lovely Glenferrie has its old world charm amongs the bustle of Hawthorn, in the middle of Swinburne University, has its old style access ramp not to steep for wheelchairs, great seating on all three platforms, and toilets are located on platforms 1 and 2 that are the middle platforms so you can access both 1 and 2 from the same platform area. A NAB ATM at the ticket area is handy and is secure as next to a manned ticket office and under good CCTV. The toilets need a revamp and if they were done up I’d give the station a ⁵⁄₅. You have protective services after 6pm on the platform and surrounds so a safe station. Great cafes for coffee as you approach the station.

Updating my review after today’s events.
Like I mentioned in my last review, the location is really great. It’s next to many shops and restaurants so you’re never bored. If you attend Swinburne University, Glenferrie Railway Station is right at your doorstep.
So why am I giving 2 stars? The «customer service» window does not do what it says on the sign… provide customer service. The man who is regularly there should NOT have a job dealing with customers.
I haven’t bought a Myki because I thought Metcards would still be sold at customer service windows and I needed to get to a meeting ASAP. The man condescendingly said «Zone 1 2 hour tickets do not exist. You need a MYKI.» Okay, that’s fine although he could have just said something like «Sorry, Metcards have been completely phased out.»
So I bought a Myki from him, and he took his sweet time counting the money given to him, inputting the Myki into the system etc. I very POLITELY said «I’m really sorry but my train is arriving right now can we speed it up a bit?»
Note that I said politely. I wasn’t a raging customer. I treat every customer service representative whether it be at a restaurant or even a telemarketer with respect because I know how shitty jobs can be and I don’t like making it more difficult for someone.
His response?
«I don’t care» in a sarcastic tone of voice. I was shocked that in a city that values the importance of customer service, I have to deal with an absolute CUNT (and I don’t use that word lightly). Look dude, the world doesn’t revolve around you when you’re doing a CUSTOMER SERVICE job. You have to learn to be polite, even when you’re having a bad day. Don’t drag someone else down into your misery.

Like most train stations in Melbourne Glenferrie Station is packed in peak times. CBD workers and school children clog the station and the train carriages in the morning and afternoon.
The station suffers from enormous numbers of school kids and students from Swinburne, but it isn’t really a problem until you get onto the trains.
The Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein lines all come through here so to get to another destination you’ll have to head further in and then transfer to another train line.
During the late nights watch out for crowds around Cheers and Room the local hot spots. I’m not aware of any problems but it’s always good to note that there are people drinking in venues close by.
