Cheap and cheerful. Food comes out fast and hot, and the staff are friendly – perfect for an informal meal. Seafood and vegetarian laksa, nasi goreng, roti, curry chicken and steamed greens are solid favourites with our dinner crew, and never disappoint. The menu is extensive with heaps of vegetarian options, and depending on how busy they are they will try to be adaptable to changes to the menu. Staff are always friendly, we usually have a laugh with them, they’re chatty and engaging which makes a nice change to some of the other places along Glenferrie Road. No split bills. BYO is $ 2pp. Awesome.

I love Malaysian food, there is so much influence in their style of cooking from all the surrounding Asian countries that makes the cuisine truly unique. When I was at university this used to be one of my favourite Malaysian restaurants in the area to come for lunch. Just enough time in my break to have a quick curry laksa which is on par with the speed and taste that I have experienced with I was in KL. After having been to Malaysia, I now know to order the Nasi Lemak, this is a traditional dish where they also do it justice here at the Hawker’s Café.
