First time for me since the renovations which are fantastic ! Warm, inviting and the perfect view across to the oval. Very nicely made coffee and the food is reasonably priced. Will be coming back.

Recently went here after a walk with my sister to check out the renovations. Was left waiting for a long time to be served, food extremely average, $ 3 to add cheese to a brioche bacon and egg bun, chai was not hot or had much flavour. Although the renovations were excellent, love the deck out the front.

Joan’s pantry has such a fresh vibe to it. With modern furniture and long sweeping windows that let the sunshine and breeze in its a perfect place to go to on a summer day. The food was fresh and served perfectly(right temperature, serving size etc) although not overly fancy it was done so well that I felt so satisfied after the meal. Definitely check this place out, especially the breakfast menu, you won’t be disappointed!

Next time you are in the Blackwood, Belair or Mitcham townships, then check out Hawthorndene where you will find opposite a parkland setting, with ample car parking, «Joan’s Pantry». I have passed«Joan’s Pantry» on a number of occasions travelling from Stirling to Flinders Hospital on the Upper Sturt Rd, but always in a hurry. After stopping for a coffee and a cake, realised I should have stopped here a long time ago. Not only is the location good for picnics, dog walking, children’s play ground or just relaxing. We found the«Pantry» is a large modern purpose built restaurant, having good facilities, a great kitchen, with an excellent breakfast lunch or take away menu, all at competitive prices. What with a good choice of seating options, indoor and out door, free WiFi, News Paper. We enjoyed their special roast, very well made coffee, with a cake from the display case. We found the service excellent, warm and friendly. Our only disappointment is we should have called in a long time ago, now«Joan’s Pantry» will be a regular stop when ever in this area in the future.

First time coming back here since the changes. All i can say is love it!!! Love the feel and atmosphere of the newly renovated Joan’s Pantry. Greeted by friendly staff. Menu has a great selection from breakfast all the way through to a delightful afternoon tea. Coffee was done perfect. No burnt after taste and temperature was spot on. Breakfast we delish too. Egg Benedict with cooked to perfection. Thank you for a great experience upon our return dining experience. Highly recommend. Its a very busy place any day of the week. They take bookings if you dont want to chance a walkin table.

Let me start by stating that I love the new café! The front counter area is much bigger and features a cool lime green wall. The waiting area for takeaway is much bigger with a few seats to sit at too. The dine in area is beautiful with ample seating and a fresh, clean, open bright and airy feel to it — love the polished concrete floors. What I love the most though is the inclusion of bathroom amenities! No longer do you have to toddle off to the park when you need to go :) Okay, so now for the rest. This was their first day back trading since the rebulid and it was busy! Taking that into consideration they were doing a great job. Love that they have a variety of different milks available for coffees, and gluten free options for most meals. The menu selection looks good — although I didn’t order food today. I did order a smoothie, and after initially being disappointed that it was not as healthy an option as I thought(it has icecream in it), once I voiced my doubt about ordering it, the lady serving me did offer a number of alternatives. In the end my 2 year old son drank it anyways, but the teency bit I got was not bad. More milkshake than smoothie, but that’s just my opinion. The coffee I ordered. Tall, almond milk flat white, was strong, but not bitter and definitely gave me my morning kick! I did miss the healthy treats they usually have in the display cabinet, but I was reassured that they will be back soon. If you’re in the area, want a good coffee, friendly service and a nice enclosed park to take the kids to after, absolutely make a stop at Joans. Its an institution in Hawthorndene :)

Continuing the theme, yes I too used to come here as a little tacker. They still offer bags of mixed lollies and are the perfect distance from the nearby playground and creekside walking tracks but these days I head in here for a their great coffees! More recently they’ve expanded with an outdoor seating area nestled into the surrounding bush and have also established a local community kitchen garden on the back of their land. My tip stop for a coffee then take a walk along the beautiful creek side walking tracks.

I wish Joans Pantry was open later, the doors were always closed when I stumbled past with one of my besties, granted this was at about 11pm but the pies here are so good… My mum used to take me here when we went to the playground next door, I’ll admit that this made the playground soooo much better than it was already, the promise of ice-cream and soft drink seals the deal. There are tables in side where you can sit and eat or have a coffee, I’m not sure how good business is considering it’s a bit hard to notice if you’re just driving past, worth a visit though, take the kids to the oval across the street.

I discovered Joans Pantry when my son was doing soccer practice last year on the oval across the road, and on a cold winter’s morning it’s a heart starter, not forgetting a hand warmer too, plus they make a pretty darn good coffee. Joans Pantry has been around since the 1920’s starting off as a tin shed, it has been added to a little over time but haven’t really done any earth shattering renovations, simply come into the 21st century with some updating. But the good old fashioned service and quality of food still remains, despite it changing ownership several times. It’s just that sort of environment of country hospitality and when they’re it, they can’t afford to lose local business. There’s lots of indoor seating and a few outdoor settings, a very good selection of baked goods like pies, pasties, etc and also sweets. All of the prices are reasonable seeing as there is no competition within cooee.

My introduction to Joans Pantry happened when I was a little tacker. My mum was big on food-bribes and this little gem was on the hike to gran-mamas in the Adelaide Hills. It may have kept me quiet until Crafers, which was likely blessed relief to the parental units. I’ve always remembered it and stop in if I happen to be in the area. It’s smack bang between an oval, a kids park and tennis courts and acts as both a café and deli. The hot chocolates are good, the cakes even better. It’s goodness is enhanced by the fact there’s no comparable shops(that I know of) between Blackwood and half-way to Stirling. In a nutshell — your local or out of the way deli/café!
