There’s a real holiday vibe about the Sorrento Quay Boardwalk. Being on water has that effect, I suppose. The shopping, restaurant and entertainment district is located in the beautiful Hilary’s marina, encompassing more than forty outlets. Highlights include Grill’d burgers, Bellisimo ice creamery, Hippo Creek and the Breakwater. The Boardwalk has had a massive revamp of late, with lots of seating area over the harbour. It feels like an American carnival — especially in the summer when the show rides are out. A perfect afternoon and night out for young families.

A large floating shopping centre. This is the best I can do at describing what this place is. Its a great spot for a walk around as there is a wide variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. I always found it strange that there was more than one shop selling sarongs, fishermans pants and items that you would normally see on the streets of Bangkok or Kuta. If you are bored of people watching then you can walk along the outside levels of the boardwalk and look at the boats that are for sale instead. Sit and imagine yourself in these boats, sipping cold champagne, fishing and watching the sunset.

Hilarrys harbour would be half of what it is, without the Sorrento Quay, and the quay would be floaing markets without the boardwalk. When I think boardwalks I think of a wooden walkway in the open, over water. Sorrento Quay boardwalk was so much more than I expected the first time I saw it. True to traditional boardwalks in the sense that it is comprised entirely out of wooden planks with the gaps between them being just wide enough to trap heels. How do I know this? I tempted fate once, and once only– heads up ladies, better to stick with a sandal or wedge! This is so much more thana boardwalk, it is the glue of the Sorrento quay. Partially enclosed by clothing stores, touristy gift shops, medical facilities, newsagents, pharmacies, restaurants, coin operated rides, ice cream stands and atms. It is intense to see how developed this space is, even from the outside viewing the boats moored in the quay, there is not a vacant spot on the boardwalk that wont give you access to a shop, restaurant or public toilet. The shops are lovely, the cafes and restaurants are good and the view over Hillarys Harbour is beautiful. The boardwalk is always buzzing with life and it’s proximatey to so many of Perths tourist attractions, like the aquarium and adventure world, make it a popular hot spot for tourists and locals. For me, the boardwalk takes on a more genuine, romantic persona after 5: pm when the shops close and the sun sets over the water, then it’s just good food, good people and good vibes. I wil bravel punt that this is the most romantic, diverse and devoloped boardwalk in Oz!
