Great food. Friendly service. Very reasonably priced. Looks daggy, but don’t be fooled. The food is incredibly tasty and authentic. We orders the fish curry, dhal and mushroom entre — all delicious.

Best Indian in Hobart, hands down. It’s pretty simple. Like the previous reviewer, I also have a go-to dish, and because I’m totally unadventurous, it’s butter chicken — you know the one, that delicious red/orange bowl of delight. Except at Maharaja, it’s… Different. It’s not red or orange. It’s amazing. Seriously, seriously amazing. It just feels authentic. It tastes authentic. It’s god damn delicious. I’ve also tasted heaps of their other dishes and they’re all the same, in terms of deliciousness.

So, here’s the thing. I know what I like, and with most types of restaurants I have a go-to meal. For Indian, it’s lamb korma. Heck yeah. I’ll skim over the menu but let’s face it, I’m gonna have lamb korma. But then Maharaja came along. I looked at Maharaja’s menu… and wanted something other than lamb korma. Not just one thing, either – there were MULTIPLE menu items that I hadn’t really seen before, and then seeing as I was looking at those, I was looking at the rest of the menu in detail too, like some glorious heavenly light was shining on it. I’ve been to Maharaja twice now and walked out with two curries I’ve never tried before. All four were varying levels of DELICIOUS. Let’s face it, third time’ll be the charm and I’ll have to finally take Maharaja’s lamb korma on. But you know what? I’m SOEXCITED to do so.
