The food here is good, we had the lamb cutlets and chicken souvlaki and the dip plate, they have many gluten free options. Whilst the service was pleasant it was slow and unorganised, did not seem to be enough staff for a busy and crammed space. It is quite expensive though.

Read the previous reviews and wanted to add our two cents, from a more current point of view. No Retsina… huh? Settled for a nice Pinot Grigio. Nicely greeted by hostess, whose mom makes the pastries I found out later. The waiter who seemed narked at being mistaken for a greek,(Hey he was dark haired, swarthy and worked in a GREEK restaurant… sue me!) seemed to be a bit taciturn. He spoke enthusiastically to the larger table next to us about specials but not a word to us. The food was good but not exceptional. hHad The humous and yogurt dips, could have done with more pita and less bread but both were tasty. Calimari appi was five rings and over priced, but well cooked and not tough. Shared a ‘greek salad’ and Moussaka and was happy enough with both. The béchamel was piled high, the meat and potatoes in the dish very tasty but not the biggest part of the dish. The roasted potatoes served with the moussaka were excellent. The service was prompt and efficient the hostess was the sommelier and was very sparkly and helpful.

Well, I don’t like being negative but no positives here… We made a reservation last night so we could dine here on our last night in Hobart. On arrival, we were greeted by a staff member who asked our name and then walked off, she then came back and showed us where our table was. On our way to our table I slipped on the tiled flooring(wet outside) and then we couldn’t get to our table as the walk way was blocked by chairs and a waiter standing in the way. We looked at the menu and then was waiting to have our order taken… We waited approx 20 — 30 mins before a waiter came to our table. Within that time we were not very impressed so we decided that we would only order an appetizer and go elsewhere. We ate and got out… I wouldn’t recommend this place if you didn’t want to wait.

One word– Wow! The service is exceptional. But it has nothing on the food. The Lamb melts in your mouth. My favourite restaurant in Hobart by far.

I moved to Hobart in June 2011 from San Francisco and have fallen in love with everything about this city. Mezethes is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Hobart the Greek food is tasty and the atmosphere is great. The seating arrangement is a bit funky when its crowded because there are two tiers but overall you can’t go wrong if you are looking for a nice meal out.

Mezethes is an old favourite of mine in Hobart. They server great Greek food at a pretty good price, but just as importantly the place is always fun. This restaurant is typically pretty busy and has a good upbeat ‘organised chaos’ atmosphere that can be infectious — especially if you catch one of the nights where the guitar gets pulled off the shelf.
