Stopped by for a coffee while i was in town, as i wanted to try some Ritual espresso. Double espresso was well extracted and had notes of caramel, chocolate and sweet finish. The menu looks really interesting and I would really like to return for a glass of wine and dinner sometime. Overall a really tidy little business. Will definitely be back!

Small as in hole in the wall but BIG on everything else. A well crafted small menu but all with great flavours. Attentive service coupled with the ability to sit and watch the chef Rhys work his craft so well. He’s happy to chat as all of the staff are, and with a great wine list and assorted beers etc, we will be back. We had a nice bottle of Milton Riesling coupled with 2 sliders that we shared. We aren’t big eaters and at 2pm’ish this was an ideal way to hit the hunger spot. We shared the pulled brisket and Pork belly sliders and they were fantastic. Well cooked and well flavoured and seasoned we devoured them quickly. Specials available too. They do great coffee apparently and also amazing donuts that sell out as soon as they are made. We will be going back to try the breakfast experience. Highly recommend.

Ai, Small-fry. You’ve got some big shoes to fill… the previous occupant of this space was basically the restaurant version of a boyfriend for me. I’ve been to Small-fry twice now and I still feel a bit like I’m rolling around in that old establishment’s bedsheets with someone new, which feels awkward, both exciting but sad. But I think, in time, this new relationship will grow. It’s fun exploring the menu at Small-fry, presented on a heavy wooden cube(quirky!). There are breakfast offerings available until 11:30am, including the duck cassoulet I had today – a hearty winter breakfast and unlike most breakfast menu offerings, which really endears it to me. Then there’s the«after breakfast» menu, which runs from 11:30am until whenever the place closes up, which changes from day to day. Earlier in the week, closing hours are around 3pmish. From Thursday, they’re more like 8:30pmish.(Future plans are to be open until late six nights a week(closed on Sundays) once the Small-fryers have found their feet.) The post-breakfast menu has an interesting collection of meals, from smaller snacks to belly fillers. Then there are the counter goods, too. The licensee’s partner is a very handy baker and if there are ever doughnuts on the counter, GETONE. Then again, sometimes they aren’t there, so don’t get your hopes up. Small-fry is worth a try. They’re definitely still finding their feet, as are their customers. I think I’ve worked out that the best way to head to Small-fry is with no expectations. A small space meals a small selection of things, so menu items may or may not be available when you arrive – just go with the flow. Oh, and on a very important note: the coffee is always available, and from my experience thus far, always delicious.
