I grabbed some sushi for lunch from Sushi Master on Saturday. I was disappointed. The rice was gluggy on the outside and a bit hard on the inside, and the seaweed wasn’t as firm and fresh as other sushi restaurants. The prices aren’t cheap either. Sushi Wawa just down the road is offering much cheaper and high-quality sushi.

The food is on the lower side of okay. Though it certainly isn’t what I would expect for a business called Sushi Master. As I sit by the sushi train and watch the malformed sushi roll past, it is difficult to get excited. Japanese food is supposed to tantalise all of your senses including your sight. If the presentation level to be master is what I am seeing in front of me, then call me Master; My Sushi is just as good. Today’s meal included; seaweed salad(tasty but nearing its use by date), crab balls(must have been a big crab — cooked to order– nothing wrong with these but in my opinion were a little bland), California roll with salmon(apart from being poorly prepared and deformed, the rice was disgusting — it was in part both overcooked and mushy whilst having uncooked grains throughout as well), and a bottle of water(wow $ 4. Water is more expensive than the sushi). Overall, I am very disappointed. Mostly with myself as this is the second time I have been here. I had convinced myself that the food was better than I remembered. If you do come here don’t expect too much and you may not leave feeling the same as I did.

At the moment they are offering half price sushi train on Mondays and Wednesdays! You can’t really beat that can you? All the sushi was great but I was hoping for an eel to swim its way around to me but it never did. Not to worry though there was plenty other options including king fish sashimi and cured tuna! There was even a cured beef that was a nice break from the fishiness. Cured tuna should be a national staple.
