Joondalup library is the best in the area. It has a huge range of books — fiction, non fiction, kids and reference. For the kids they have a huge area filled with books and some toys. Several times a week they have storytime followed by activities in a purpose built craft area. The non fiction is shelved by area of interest and then the dewey system in that area. This can be a little confusing sometime when you are not sure what a subject would have be classified as but the staff are happy to help if you get stuck. There are plenty of couches and chairs for you to chill out and read. There are also plenty of study desks throughout the entire library. Downstairs they have the reference and computers section — which tends to be the quietest area for study. When researching for uni I have found the ladies in the reference section a wealth of knowledge. If that don’t have the book you are looking for, they can order it in specially from the state library or any other library in WA. They will also happily accept suggestions for books to add to the collection. Any one can be a member. You do not have to live in the area, you just have to show up with some ID. Members can access their Wi-Fi for free or use their computers and printers. The only down side is there is only 2 rooms that you can do group study and they are often taken. You can actually reserve these rooms if you call ahead.

I really like libraries in general but as far as libraries in the local area go, they aren’t too flash. The likes of Whitfords really lacks a lot of decent books and don’t really have a study area, which is a shame. Joondalup however, is one of my favourites. Perfect down stairs area for studying, now being a unfocussed uni student, this is perfect as there are few distractions. They have a huge range of different books some amazing literature, with authors I had never heard of before.

This is just one of my favourite places in the world. I used to come here all the time to study for any exams or tests. The nerdiest of the nerds who went to my school hung out in the reference library down stairs in our desperate attempt to get the best mark possible in our TEE exams, and trust me, it worked. Even afterwards, the library is still a safe haven of learning and general nerdiness. It’s also a great place to go if your wireless has gone kaput and you are in desperate need of the Internet. Or, if you’ve run out of ink and you need to print something out. But most of all, it’s the book. Shelves upon shelves of books. Pretty much my heaven
