Joondalup Emergency Department

OK, we struck a quiet night, but the staff was incredible. Every one of them was efficient and kind, but i must say, last night one was a standout performer. Nurse Fiona was an ANGEL in human form. Her kindness to the patient, a 90 year old, was unreal, her calm gentle manner soothed my mom instantly, and she was just unbelievably good at her job. Altho this cubicle wasn’t theoretically HER patient, within a couple of minutes she had gone the extra yard, bringing the extra chair for family, getting blankets for the patient and making sure she was lying as comfortably as possible, putting off bright lights, and talking gently, all the time stroking her face in a loving sweet manner. Wow, what a talent, to reassure the patient like that!
OK, nobody wants to go to ER, and it does take HOURS to get ANYTHING treated, even when quiet, but people like this make it less unpleasant! Good staff is vital and they seem to have great staff.

Nice new facility, but you’re at the mercy of the public health system. If its busy, you could be waiting up to 3 hours. Construction is still going on and it should service the northern suburbs quite nicely once its finished late 2012.
