Iguana Bar & Restaurant

A fun late late night haunt that I don’t frequent so much these days like I did in my teens. … Late night dining out the front can satisfy your midnight hunger. Bar service is, as it always has been, extremely efficient. Three bars to choose from and a dance floor out the back complete with disco ball and strip poles. No there are no strippers… just an opportunity for extremely drunk individuals to make like pole dancers in the wee hours of the morning… usually without much success. Book the place for a private function if you’re really keen, or just come here for a late night few which I reckon’s your best bet. They do a mean cocktail. As far as concoctions go, ask and ye shall receive. The place has been pumping since 1989. And I used to frequent it’s late night interior in my high school days. I popped in very late post a Lionel Ritchie concert recently, and aside from the addition of strip poles, I honestly couldn’t spot one iota of change which made me feel a little warm and fuzzy, until I witnessed grown men take to the strip tease… ooh dear.

My spiritual home in the Cross, I have ranged from hitting the Iguana Bar 5 times a week in the early Noughties, to less frequently these days– but when I’m in the area I always pop in to enjoy a bevvy and what new renovations Uly the owner has done this time. Part of what has kept this long-​running (over 20 years) back-​street Kings Cross institution relevant is its’ constantly changing not just décor, but actual set up. I won’t bore you with details of the many changes this place has gone through physically, suffice it to say that there is currently a pole on the dance floor, that’s right guys– and drunk girls do love jumping up and showing just how crap they are at pole dancing!
The two terraces are divided into a tinted VIP section and one for «regular» punters. The kitchen is open late and serves up good nosh– I am not a midnight kebab kinda gal so this is where I come late-​night feed if I’m in need of one.
Service is great and amazingly for the area, security are very polite and courteous. Keep doing what you do Uly!
