This place used to be so good. We stopped getting takeaway from here a few months ago after having problems with a particular staff member who didn’t even know what was on their menu and had very little grasp of the English language. After one too many messed up orders, we gave up on them. That was until last Sunday. My son and I decided to give them another go, as we had really been missing our Thai food fix. Big mistake! I thought it was bad enough finding a piece of egg shell in my Chicken Pad Se Ew, but that was trumped by my son getting and partially eating a very very smelly, off prawn that was in his Seafood Pad Thai! He is feeling a lot better now, thank goodness, but he was pretty sick for a couple of days there! I just sincerely hope that no others got sick, as they were quite busy that night. Seafood is something that you need to be extremely careful with, as poor storage, handling and cooking has the potential to kill or at least make a person very sick! Suffice to say, we won’t be back!

The best panang curry in Perth! Most places don’t use enough curry paste and too much coconut milk. Bua Siam get the balance just right: thick, rich and delicious. They get a lot of takeaway orders on Friday night so call ahead and expect a 20 — 30 minute wait. But oh boy it is worth waiting for!

I feel the term«neighbourhood gem» is hugely over-used but, it probably counts in this instance. Bua Siam is a Thai restaurant/takeaway in a dodgy shopping centre area in a suburb without the best reputation in the world(unfairly so, these days). You could drive by and miss it, which I did, hundreds of times. But after eating here once, it’s become a steady favourite. The food is always freshly cooked and hot, with fresh ingredients and the flavours perfectly balanced. The servings are generous in both takeaway and dine-in options and not full of onion and cabbage filler like a lot of Asian takeaway. My go-to dishes are the Tamarind Prawn and the Duck Red Curry with Lychees. I’m a sucker for both duck and lychees. And the prawn toast entrée when you dine-in is a huge and delicious serving. Dining in, it’s not the fanciest of restaurants, despite the food being better than a lot of Thai places you might consider for a ‘night out’ — but the service is friendly and welcoming. Bua Siam is very close for me, but I would happily drive a few suburbs for Thai this good! Delivery is an option for quite a few neighbouring suburbs for $ 2.

We were emphatically starving and my tastebuds would not rest unless satisfied with some good Thai. With not much going on in my neck of the woods it made the task of gathering dinner all the more critical. After rummaging through all the surrounding Thai places, which didn’t take all that long, I was pleased to hear that Bua Siam delivered to 18 neighbouring suburbs for a measly $ 2-$ 3 surcharge. So I pulled the trigger and placed an order for delivery, that included Green Chicken Curry, Red Curry Duck and jasmine rice. Delivery was prompt and within 30mins. We were ravenous at that stage and wasted no time in getting down to business. It was at that point when we enjoyed a mouthful of creamy fiery duck with lychee and pineapple that the moment had seized us and we knew that we had discovered a culinary gem. Our tastebuds were truly satieted by the wonderfully, rich, aromatic and tantalising flavours. We decided to visit them the next time round just to be sure that it wasn’t our previous ravenous state that might have obscured reality. Whilst the surroundings were far from aesthetically pleasing, the restaurant itself was cosy, inviting and authentically Thai. We tried the Choo Chee Prawn and Massaman Beef this time and again were transported to magical Thailand. Do yourself a favour and give this place a go. You won’t be disappointed!
