The best local café for the Lathlain area. Great location, friendly service, casual atmosphere, a solid breakfast menu and tasty coffees mean that Kettle ticks all the boxes. Many suburbs have a café that is great for its catchment area without necessarily offering anything distinctive to make it a foodie destination — Kettle is Lathlain’s great café.

Kettle café is tucked away in the suburb of Lathlain. It’s a big premises with a kitsch feel and delicious sounding menu. I popped in for brekkie with family and we easily found a table for 4. The menu looked delicious and we moseyed up to the counter and ordered in great anticipation. The lady taking our order was lovely as were the servers. The reason I gave this 3 stars is that while the food was nice, it wasn’t amazing. At approx $ 20 a dish, $ 5 for a mug of coffee and $ 7 a juice, I’m hoping for something in the field of Harvest Espresso, Piccolo’s Corner or Sayers Sister.

THE best coffee around! Relaxed cosy atmosphere — with a regular assortment of customers from corporate business meetings, mums groups, dogs with their owners usually sitting out the front and have often seen the Paramedics stop in for a quick break. Love the variety of food and have enjoyed every dish here so far! There’s even a Kids corner to keep the young ones entertained while you enjoy your caffeine recharge! With the current street development and near future plans for the area it’s expected further competition is going to pop up around the place. Kettle is ahead of the game and ready to take the new comers head on!

A really cute suburban café with a solid(and fairly priced) breakfast menu and great coffee. It can take a little longer than you might expect for your meal to come out, so factor that expectation in and you’ll be golden. I had the rice pudding and it was delicious! Every suburb needs a joint like this.

Coming here for a Saturday morning breakfast I expected it to be busy, and it was though we got a table straight away. I ordered the fritter(tomato and capsicum) with avocado and sour cream… But I didn’t see them until 45minutes after I ordered them. I also ordered a berry smoothie which came out within a few minutes and was delicious. The service I found to be a bit all over the shop, when we came in I approached the counter and was just kind of met with a stare until I asked do we just sit anywhere? Then there was no indication as to whether it was table or counter service. No signs or notes on the menu. The breakfast when it arrived was very tasty but honestly I could have made it at home in 20minutes and I’m not a chef. There was a large table which I imagine affected the promptness of our food, but in saying that don’t have a table for 12 set up of your kitchen can’t handle it. Safe to say I was hangry.

Two stars for my coffee which was actually phenomenal and one more because I feel obliged to. From other reviews I can safely assume we just had a bad experience but it happened so I can’t lie. We waited 45 minutes for two breakfasts which were tasty but nothing magical. Firstly, and I know this is personal preference, there were no meals on the menu which contained bacon. You could add it as an extra, sure, but it didn’t have the proper home that it’s earned through years of service and adoration. This upset me. Nobody puts Babe in the corner! I had the fresh figs rocket and grilled prosciutto on rye with two poached eggs and my partner had the corn fritters with avocado and two poached eggs. The food was good but as I said not worth the ridiculous wait. The décor was cute, kind of old diner southern style very bright and open. Cool little toys corner for kids is a great idea for such an urban café which made me smile. A decent experience but I feel no urge to return in the future.

Free tea top ups, a big shared table and very family friendly. A hidden gem in Lathlain! Spacious with a corner for the kids with toys, yet doesn’t feel like a kindergarten, loads of parking, and some tasty breakfasts. The food is fresh and full of flavour, with some classic favourites as well as something to keep the foodies interested. I’m very happy to call this place my local café!

Every pocket of the globe needs a great local café. Somewhere to walk to on a Sunday morning knowing the smell of coffee and a paper await. Kettle Café has recently popped up in Lathlain much to the delight the locals piling in for honest home cooked fare. Our friends who all live close have been singing Kettle’s praises since it opened. Breakfasts are my favourite catch ups so we quickly snapped up the opportunity to check it out. The café has a breezy neighbourhood feel with warm furnishings and welcoming staff. There are cosy and intimate tables for lovebirds, larger tables for groups and the rustic communal table is perfect for spreading out the paper. The rugrat friendly corner is right by the low, lounge style seating for parents to enjoy their meal whilst the little ones play. The breakfast menu is short and simple and the counter filled with sweets and muffins for those wanting a sweeter start to the day. I can never understand my boyfriend at breakfast time. He always orders what I think is the boring option, this time the classic free range eggs poached with avocado and bacon which was wolfed down in seconds. The lemon and thyme polenta served with creamy mushrooms, rocket, thick shavings of parmesan and a drizzle of basil oil caught my eye so I added a serve of poached eggs on top. It was warming and hearty, tasting like a Winter breakfast should. Kettle Café is a quaint little café just perfect for this corner of the world.
