Part café, part hairdressers, part art shop and part ‘curiosity shop’. This place really is a new kind of hybrid! Located by itself on the quieter end of Oxford Street, Distracted is definitively one to check out. Browse the art and quirky gifts while you wait for your meal — genius! The café’s menu is quite limited with only 4 or 5 items on it, but I had the frittata and it was delicious. Free WiFi at the quiet, serene café makes it great to work from. Also — I love the typography on the wall out the front :)

There is sooooooooooooo much stuff in this store, you’re almost overwhelmed at first, indeed very much, er, distracted. But take a good three quarters of an hour out of your shopping day to browse and you’ll discover some amazing little things. There are homewares aplenty, rare and beautiful hardcover books, unique jewellery, and kooky little curios and pieces of colourful crockery. After that 45 minutes of being on your feet, you might like to sit at their mini café to enjoy a nice cup of chai, or even make an appointment to get your locks looked after at their mini salon. Another great Perth example of a cutting edge one-stop shop, pun intended.

Your first visit to Distracted can be a little overwhelming. I am not sure if distracted is the right word for this shop, maybe confused would work better. It tries to be a little bit of everything. It is hairdresser, waxing salon, café, book store, art gallery and gift shop all in one. They call it a lifestyle convenience store. I have never used the services of the hairdresser or waxing salon. But I have sat enjoyed a great coffee and spent hours browsing their homewares and gift shops. The stock a range of quirky and fun gifts. This is one of those places that you need to stop by every so often just to see what new things have come in.

Café, gift shop, art gallery, hairdresser and Brazillian wax studio; Distracted fits it all in one space. I generally find this style of multi-merchant shop shambolic; like they’ve bitten off more than they can chew, but Distracted is easily digestible. The name is very fitting; you can easily get absorbed among all the interesting crafts and loot for sale. The wares are as stylish as they are cool with not an inch of kitsch in sight. There are hand-painted coffee cups and milk jugs, watermelon shaped suitcases, scrumptious smelling perfumes, and little treasures like gold Vintage letter brooches. The buyer has an excellent eye for style. I was so impressed with the array of wares that I’ve decided to look into the hairdressing aspect. I’m hoping the good taste translates. Oh, and the barista coffee is superb here too!

Distracted is a vintage style convenience store, which has combined a little bit of everything into it’s quaint space: a book store, hair salon and coffee shop, and also sells a range of cameras, homewares and other unique goodies. This creative store is situated a little north of the primary shopping drag, and so I find it is the perfect place to step away from the hustle and bustle, and have a coffee while checking out their odd bits and pieces. I have spent hours in here before, as I am inspired by all the craft, exceptional detail, the sense on wonder, the passion and the treasure; where ever you look, you find something new. You must check it out, because it definitely stands out from the regular stores you would expect to see in Perth.
