Great friendly staff who really looking they belong in health and fitness, none of the pushy sales tactics you get in other place and they have just spent a whole tonne of money updating a whole bunch of their equipment

Classical suburban multi purpose rec centre Loftus has a gym, a bunch of basketball/​netball/​volley courts, multiple rooms for dance classes and so on and a crèche.
The gym has been renovated in the last few years and while that sounds good, its improved only from terrible to average. There’s a shortage on machines and room in general, the change rooms are tiny and the space feels crowded. At least its cheap.
The courts aren’t great, tend to be a bit slippery and the basketball backboards are shithouse but i guess I’m a harsh judge.
Not a terrible place, serves its purpose with the lack of immediate alternatives.

I was doing a workout here once and I saw Harry Connick Jr in the corner of the gym working out himself. That gave this place bonus points for me alone.
The gym here hosts tons of equipment — treadmills, weights, bikes, the lot — but I’m a bit concerned about the lack of water here — no showers or even drinking water so you better bring a few big bottles if you want to douse yourself — let alone quench your thirst — after a workout.

The Gym at Loftus Recreation Centre is a lot cheaper to join than most gyms in Perth. It’s $ 23 a week for a rolling contract (can cancel membership at any time). It’s cheaper again for a fixed 12 month contract. This is significantly less than other gyms I looked into, which were minimum $ 35 per week as well as a massive joining fee.
However, as always, you get waht you pay for. There are no shower facilites for gym users, there is no water cooler — you have to bring enough water to do you for your entire workout, and there are only a handful of lockers. That said, there is plenty equipment — rows and rows of treadmills, bikes, steppers, and all the weight machines you can think of. The few drawbacks are well worth it when you’re saving about $ 60 a month on membership!

The Rec Centre has so much to offer as a local sporting facility. I was honestly amazed when I googled places near my new house where I’d be able to play Basketball, and this is what I found. It has a bunch of basketball courts that become netball, volleyball and indoor soccer courts (all of great quality), there’s also an impressive gym for working out, plenty of fitness classes for the public, gymnastics equipment and room and venues to hire out as well. I even found a physio hiding away in this gigantic building. If you want a real list of everything you should check the website, it’d take me too long to sing all its praises. Also, the staff at the front counter are great and you can ask them anything. They even lend out basketballs for free if you need one =)
