I thought others were exaggerating when they complained about the door staff, but boy was I wrong! I went out on the Saturday night(at 10pm) for my 21st that was on Sunday(in 2 hours time) and the door girl didn’t let me in because I wasn’t 21 yet? Yeah… this is Australia not the US, and before anyone thinks«well maybe they prefer older crowds?» Well, my mate thats 20 was let in just after her 20th birthday, so I really think they just prefer people with certain looks. The security were amazed and apologetic that they couldn’t let me in. Certainly a put off to bother going back now that I am 21.

Yes the manor one of the most pretentious night spots in Perth full of judgemental ex-private school young adults, but that doesn’t stop me from going there at least once a month. It plays decent music, mostly pop or hip hop, unfortunately the DJ has the exact same playlist in the same order every week. The bar itself is very easy on the eyes, the décor is very stylish, there’s two bars(upstairs and down), an outdoor smoking area and a raging D-Floor with the DJ behind a White Grand Piano. The Upstairs area is good for hiring out for functions and brings your guests entry price down from $ 10 to $ 5. The Bar staff are ok, depending on the night they make a great espresso martini. Drink prices are very expensive. Down points are the door staff, very grumpy and pretentious, the door price, the fact that there’s only one set of toilets there’s ALWAYS a line for the ladies and lastly the line to get in to the place itself… It’s really hard for guys to get in, or girls if they’re not«dressed right» and there’s always a line so if you don’t like waiting in one, don’t bother.

It’s all very luxe in here, you dance around a piano, you drink cocktails on velvet lounges, some even kiss under dimly lit chandeliers. In fact, many do. It’s a nice space, but the energy is all wrong — a combination of the hostile staff and the typically well-dressed crowd who seem to have priorities other than just a fun night out of dancing. I know this sounds very 80-something of me, but you really feel the sleaze factor here, it’s pretentious and everyone seems distracted. I don’t have a problem with people wanting to pick up, but this could be a top bar if more were feeling it. The combination of remixed soul, pop and hip hop music is fun, it needs to be embraced!

For customer service and attitude — negative one star. Gosh I am so sick of their condescending tone at the door. It’s a damn shame, everything else is good. That second star is hanging by a thread…

The Manor is decorated much as you would expect a stately British manor to be decorated, Chesterfield couches, draped velvet curtains and a large dimly lit chandelier give it a somewhat regal feel. When The Manor opened up about eight years ago it offered cool kids a place to listen to soul and hip hop, a refuge from the top 40 and house music being played at most establishments in Perth at the time. Now the Manor is more just a place people go late at night when they’re drunk to pick up. It has lost a lot of its appeal to me because of this and also because you can’t even dance due to the venue being so crammed with people. In terms of late night venues in Perth at the moment, there is probably only The Manor and Gingers as options.

This is a terrible place full of terrible people. The Manor is a pretentious excuse for a Nightclub — the décor is decked out to look like, as the name would suggest, a posh wankery house, and all the people in there follow suit accordingly — too concerned about how their hair might look if they stop posing long enough to dance, and that’s just the men. It costs $ 10 to get in on a Saturday night, and it’s really not worth it. The bar staff are slow and cranky and there’s not much room to move in between all the ‘edgy’ chaise longes and coffee tables lying around. The music is mediocre at best, but even when a good song does come on you can’t even dance without being shunned by the pseudo-cool crowd taking up the dancefloor with their angular poses.
