By far the best breakfast I’ve had in Leichhardt. I keep going back and keep leaving happy! The food and Coffee are great. The lady who owns the place is really nice and checks in everyone and is really attentive to all her customers. Definitely give it a go.

I woke up worried; I had just had a dream about a devil,(very similar in design to Tim Curry in Legend) he was trapped in a toilet stall, chained to it. Pure red-horned evil, shackled to a bathroom wall. I didn’t have the device I needed to destroy him, so I threw soap at him and splashed him with water, hoping the suds would put an end to his tyranny. I got onto my bike and peddled to the chemist to fetch what I required. Who knows what that dream meant, who knows why I cried over a spilt glass of orange juice, only to explain to my friend there, «I don’t actually care about the juice, I just wanted to be dramatic.» who knows? What I do know, is that what woke me from this devil juice pharmacy dream, was a phone call. «Come and have coffee.» That was all I needed. I was up. I had a quick shower and cycled up to the meeting place, Belli Bar on Norton Street; A small café just opposite the shopping centre. My friends had inadvertently, or perhaps advertantly chosen a table that positioned itself right on the cusp of the balcony, thus meaning that it stood on the precipice between a split level. I sat, a foot below my friends and looked up at them, my coffee was brought over. Really good coffee. I was surprised, as I’d never heard of the Belli Bar and yet its roast was so divine. When we walked to the counter to pay, I spied their glass cabinet and the sandwiches within; amazing looking specimens of chicken, lettuce, tomato, cheese, ham, all sitting squarely inside two massive pieces of bread. Crusts cut off, or perhaps non existent. The sandwiches, while cut into a triangle(Halved, I would imagine) where absolutely huge. There’s a courtyard out back and breakfast available. If you ever venture in and feel it in your heart to ask a question on behalf of a friend, I would really appreciate an answer to the following questions. One: Do those sandwiches have their crust removed? Or are they baked without crust. And, two: What does a horned demon chained to a toilet mean?

Belli Bar lives in the metaphorical shadow of next door neighbour, Berkelouw Café. Despite the prominence of sun shades next door, this cosy café has a lot to offer. Housed in a converted single story house, the outdoor deck extends across to the next property, so you have a decent chance of scoring some real estate to sun yourself and enjoy your meal. The big breakfast at Belli, meanwhile, has a real edge over the competitors in the area: Italian sausage. Most cafes, as we all know, use little chipolatas. This establishment uses an Italian sausage sliced down the middle and fried flat to create a difference maker. Combine this with a healthy inclusion of a little garlic and well-sauteed mushrooms and you have the makings of an out of the box treat.
