Aah, the traditional corner store, where would we be without them? Charlie and his family have done the tradition proud for so many years. Always smiling, always open(it seems!) and ready to save your backside when you need something in a hurry. The only problem is, it’s so hard not to pick up an ice cream when you pop in for some milk or bread…

Like any corner shop, you only go if you really need something, milk, bread, a jar of beans for that bean dish you so desperately wanted to make but when you returned from the supermarket you had forgotten to purchase the beans! The main ingredient in your dish! Beans a la beans! They’re not the cheapest and, like any coronership, they don’t carry a large range/But with that said, they are convenient, they sell Ice Creams, Newspapers and other price regulated items and in the world of corner shops, they are supreme. But most of all, they are full of character and the people that work and live there are part of the community, they’re not the faceless companies that, while cheap, expose you to horrific fluorescent lighting as you wander their expansive aisles full of mathematical puzzles such as the timeless, ‘If a 250 gram jar of beans is $ 2.20 and a 300 gram jar of another brand is $ 2.50, which one is the better value?“ So corner stores, for reasons of convenience, community and maths eradication, you are a valuable asset to any neighbourhood, and the Friendly Service Centre(Painted on a sign above the door) on North Street and Allen is no different. A friendly greeting when you enter, a smile when you leave and a cheerful wave when you’re just passing by.
