This place has been hit or miss since I first started dining here. The kids’ playground has been a major drawcard for many a family gathering and the food used to be exceptional for the price; however it’s been slowly going downhill over the last few visits. When we arrived for lunch today there were already leftover scraps of food on the floor from(what I’m assuming were) morning tea patrons. The vinyl seats and carpet in the kids’ playground is falling apart — some of it looks like it’s been stabbed. The food came to us quickly despite the large count of patrons — a few in our party ordered the Angus beef burger which came with a side of coleslaw but chips cost extra. The beef patty on the bun was dry and consisted only of beef — no or very little herbs for flavour — and the small scrape of mayonnaise was not sufficient to increase moisture with which to swallow this meal. The patty was also decidedly cool in temperature. With the new venues just opened up across the road this place needs to pay a bit more attention to detail.

I’ll give it one star for the nice environment and one star for the kids playground. That’s about it… Be warned, payment is required up front because as for food and drinks, I generally give up waiting after an hour to receive and walk out. I won’t be returning because after three strikes of paying for food and never receiving it.

I went here earlier this week when I was on holidays in Bribane with my sister. She has recently moved house so we thought we would try this place out for dinner. There were some elements of the dinner that were great, but some that were not so great. I ordered a roasted pumpkin salad, which was beautiful and was exactly what it said on the menu that it would be. I also ordered some garlic mashed potato, this said on the menu that it came with red wine jus, but alas it was just the mash(still delicious though) :) I also ordered some onion rings for the table with aoli, but when they arrived they were under cooked, and the aoli was glorified sour cream. My sister ordered a chicken parma which was nice enough, but it had a sweetish type flavour(possibly to do with something it had been cooked with) which was a bit off putting. One of the things that attracted us to this place was that on Monday nights, kids eat for $ 3 instead of the normal $ 9.95 it is for a kids meal. My sister has an 18 month old, so we ordered him steak and chips. Unfortunately the steak came out medium rare(more rare than medium) which would have been lovely for an adult, but not so great for a child, and it meant that he couldnt eat it, becasue it was too difficult to chew. All in all, the Mango Hill Tavern is an average pub. It was nice, but not great.

My host parents wanted to go out to eat so we made reservations to go to the Mango Hill Tavern. I would definitely say their drinks are WAY better than their food. Since our order was going to take over 45 minutes to prepare, a garlic and cheese bread/pizza was ordered for us to enjoy while we waited on our food. The tiny thin pizza bread was OK. It was too garlicky and thought that it needed to be bigger in size. The pieces were thin. I couldn’t enjoy it because the taste of garlic kept overpowering me. For my main course, I ordered the pork ribs and it was a big disappointment. There was so much fat on the ribs and it was too thick. I tried to eat it but I just could not. My host father’s pizza looked awesome so I think I will order something that is not as «exotic» on the menu. The cider beer I had on tap was fantastic though! I had two glasses which really helped wash down the ribs. Not the best place in the world but it’s a huge hangout for people. You can also gamble, watch sports, etc. It’s a very versatile place but I wouldn’t say food is their main attraction.
