Absolute terrible service. We asked to split the bill and the man had a very nasty attitude about it. I worked it out and figured out who would pay what and made sure it added up to the grand total. The whole time he was shaking his head and giving me, the customer, a hard time about it. Told him I would never come back and not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Barely deserves a star.

Fish Shack was the first place I stumbled upon when I arrived at Manly beach. The place looked ok(i.e., reasonably busy and not too expensive) and it offered a take out option so I took it.(I want to get to the beach as fast as I can…) Like everyone said, dips cost extra and the price is quite steep…(Always stock up on Mickey D’s ketchup before you go on a trip y’all~) It also sucked that I can’t buy beer to go…(BYOB next time you visit Sydney or AU for that matter :/) Enjoyed my little snack on the beach w/no beer… I have no clue where the bottle shop is since it’s my first time to Manly but luckily, I always bring water with me so I had that… yeah… yuck… Anyways, I thought the fish and chips was good — two big piece of fish and a ton of chips. In fact, too much chips for me! I had the hoki per the server’s recommendation.(Brownie points for not trying to recommend me the priciest fish but something local and tasty).

I was wondering around Manly with my girlfriend and we picked it at random. Beer battered Barramundi was awesome. Have been back several times since and we live in Perth.

If you’re looking for a good fish + chips place, keep going… the batter is thick but gets soggy very quickly. The fish vs. chip ratio is also not very good — you get too many chips for what it is.(the pic/fisherman’s bowl is deceiving). Servers may charge you for extra sauce, so be mindful of what you order! That said, if you’re hungry after a gnarly surf, then by all means grab a beer here and eat something quick. it’s not a main, main meal place, but it’s something cheap for a filling snack.

Loved this little restaurant. My wife and I were wondering around Manly after a day at the beach and looking to grab a bite of lunch before catching the ferry back to Sydney. We were able to snag a table with an unobstructed beach view and were quickly offered menus and water. We had a couple of Manly Blondes(the beer, not the blondes roaming the area :)), some fish and chips, and the salt and pepper squid. Everything was outstanding. The squid was delicious, and the fish and chips were amazing. Easily the best we’ve had on our holiday, with just a perfect amount of flaky batter on the large pieces of fish we received. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient and the prices were extremely reasonable, especially so given the amazing location! I highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

On Manly beach, there was a lot of choice for fish and chips… honestly… A lot. And if you order take out, it is actually a pretty big price difference. But beware of sea gulls. I actually saw a family get attacked by seagulls while they were finishing their lunches. Can anyone shudder and say«creepy Hitchcock-y.» Here at the fish shack, it was the cheapest place. Mom and I ordered the basket. It came with 2 pieces of battered hoki(it’s a white fish with a funny name. No, it does not poki), fried shrimp and a fried soft shell crab with chips. It was $ 20… But I had to pay an extra 20 cents for ketchup… that was a little lame. It was really good. I thoroughly enjoyed my box lunch on the beach. I did have to shoo away the seagulls… surprisingly they are thinner than North American seagulls… must be the transfats.

Went there on a Friday night. Service was good but the food was terrible. The fish and chips were so greasy it was inedible. Stick to fish mongers or go to manly fish café…

They had amazing fish and chips! The oysters were great too. This is a great place to stop for lunch. The staff was friendly and there was a great view of the beach.
