Fees Fees Fees… Jetstar will promote a low fare but in the end squeeze you like a lemon. If you have a carry on they will shake you down for $ 50 just for having the thought that were allowed such a luxury. They have a scale and everything on you must be under 7 kg… Everything on you! So if you carry anything trust me it will be over 7kg. I got into with the staff because my empty backpack weighted 8.6kg on their magic scale…8.6kg!!! It was empty! They must have hired the creators of «Desert Bus» to make their website because it is a joke and not functional. Don’t fall for the promos and just book a more reliable airline, if you don’t you will wish you did. I have flown many times and this was my last. Staff from desk to flight are always miserable to interact with. If you do so choose to punish yourself and fly with this circus bring along something to clean your seat with because there usually is a nice mess in the floor and seats.

The staff seemed to take pleasure in making our lives difficult. They charge nearly $ 40 for ANY checked bag. The food smelled like farts and cost an insane amount of money. There was hardly any leg room and only one nasty working bathroom on the whole plane. No entertainment to speak of (not even a damn newspaper), and the boarding process was so difficult and broken that we almost missed our flight. I HATE THIS AIRLINE MORE THAN HITLER. I would rather work on an oil tanker to reach my destination rather than fly with this horrible, disgusting company ever again.

If you don’t mind a la carte service way you pay for most things, this is a great discount carrier into Australia. They’re a subsidiary of Qantas competing with some of Australia’s other carriers. I generally bring my own food, drink and entertainment so i just care about the flight. Plane was a newish 787. Fairly comfortable and led windows are novel

We were certainly not under any false impression that this is a budget airline when we booked our flight from Ha Noi to Da Nang and Da Nang to Saigon. What made this airline low on rating is the number flight changes that happen within 96 hours of our flight. It makes planning for our trip almost impossible
The check in staff was not very helpful either and spoke very poor English and that says something since I do go to the most remote and local stores around Vietnam and still could have a decent conversation and make my purchases
One saving grace is that food that is sold on the plane is of a reasonable price. And not over charged liked in some low cost carrier, eg Air Asia
Would I use them again. Probably not if I had a Itenary to keep and follow. If I am on a leisurely holiday, maybe

Flying to New Zealand with my family and we had an issue with our luggage being transferred from Sydney. Jetstar assured us that they would be able to transfer our luggage the next day and had located the the baggage at Sydney which was a great relief for my family. Claim ticket in hand we left our final destination and were planning to return the next day to pick up our luggage. Fast forward 24 hours, we called into their baggage claim hotline and was informed that they had no idea where our luggage was. I was transferred to their Philippines Call Center who had no clue on how to make things happen. I was told that it would take up to 7 days to determine where my luggage was located.
Bottom line, nobody in their Baggage Department was available to help track my luggage down and ensure that it showed up our our final destination. I went to the Airport and was informed that all Jetstar staff had left even though it was 5pm.
A good airline is judged by their customer service which seems to be extremely lacking with Jetstars Baggage department. I would think as a startup division of Qantas that they would have there customer service processes worked out ahead of time. Not the case.

I would recommend flying with another carrier. I recently took my first domestic flight in Australia with JetStar, and it wasn’t comfortable. I preferred my Qantas flights much more in terms of quality and service.
Worst of all, I think they may have stolen my bag. After checking in and having my boarding pass checked, the flight attendant picked up my bag and said it was too heavy. She called a baggage handler to gate check it. I told them I had an international connection, and they took it without giving me a claim check. I asked for one and I was told it would go under the plane. When I got to Sydney, the bag wasn’t there. I’ve been assured they’d find it and ship it to me. However, it’s been more than 24 hours since I made the claim, and there’s no evidence it’s in their possession.
When I made my report, the agent told me that it was my fault if my bag were gone. After all, being unaware of their policy that carryons couldn’t be more than 7kg was not an excuse. As much as her response seemed to add insult to injury, I do understand that rules are rules. What I can’t get over is why they took my bag without giving me a claim check.

Awful. Would give one star if possible. Low fares shouldn’t mean terrible service and ripping off customers.

I wholeheartedly believe that with low-​cost carrier what they lack in substance they can make up for in great customer service. Not with Jetstar. It was my first time flying this budget airliner. I was traveling with family. First off, it took the ticket counter rep forever to find my reservation. She didn’t seem to think it’s her job but mine to give her the full details of my itinerary. Second, we were struggling to meet the baggage weight restrictions. So we decided to check in one extra luggage the very last minute. Although it is a complete oversight on our end, the Jetstar rep did not bother to help us in any way. They have the worst customer service ever. I will take my business elsewhere after what I experienced with Jetstar.

this airline goes out of its way to politely refuse to help you on any matters. when i booked my tickets online, an extra $ 60 for travel insurance appeared in my total balance. insurance that i do not need and did not authorise. the online agent wasted 30 minutes of my time when i wanted to get the insurance charge taken out of my balance. he gave me the runaround and then says, at the very end, that «apologies, but i would have to contact another department in order to get the charge taken out». to say that i am livid is an understatement, and i want the world to know that this airline is only good if you know how to work the system. if you don’t, it’s better to pay full fare and get decent customer service.

I’ve used Jetstar a few times and they are good for the value, they are 100x better than Tiger. However, their seats are quite uncomfortable, I don’t understand why the head portion on the seat leans in so far and tilts your head and neck forward making it so uncomfortable to sit up straight.
Also, they are very very strict about your carry-​on bag. My friend’s bag was underweight so it met weight restrictions but the bag didn’t fit perfectly in that metal scale, they argued it was too big for a carry-​on so they demanded my friend pay another $ 100 or move her clothes into a garbage bag. Well, my friend wasn’t about to pay more money, so she took out a big plastic bag she had in her purse and we threw all her clothes inside. Then we asked if jetstar could just temporarily hold onto the bag for a weekend in ‘lost & found’ or storage somewhere and they said No, that the bag would be thrown out. I’m sure they could have been more helpful had they wanted to be, but the stewards were quite rude and unsympathetic.

We traveled up and down the east coast of Australia this past June and flew economy on both international and domestic Jet Star flights four times within three weeks and I can highly recommend them. Every flight attendant was professional and cared about our comfort during the flights. Every flight except one was on time. The one flight that did have a problem was a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne and it was a mechanical problem that was resolved by the engineers within an hour. We had already boarded the plane and were waiting to take off when they returned us to the terminal. During that time, we left the airplane and waited in the terminal, which was a hell of a lot better than sitting on the runway for an hour. Everyone from Jet Star was apologetic and they kept up informed of the status of the flight. Within an hour we were on our way. For a budget airline, the planes are clean and well maintained and Jet Star economy seats have more legroom than United economy, which we normally fly a few times a year. Food and drinks are available for purchase, which can get a bit pricey and my only complaint is that they don’t offer complimentary water, coffee, tea, and soft drinks, but it’s a minor complaint for flights lasting only a few hours. I would definitely fly with them again.

Their web site is problematic and their policies are designed to rip people off. The first time i tried to book my flight, i put in all the requested info, but it didn’t issue a confirming reservation number. I called the airline and they told me they’ couldn’t find my reservation. Then i booked it a second time. When i got my confirming email, i realized that the system booked the outgoing city in error. I called the airline immediately, the 2^nd time that evening, to report the error and fix it. They told me that they can’t make changes to itineraries, once booked, and that i was out the money. The supervisor agreed. I’m now working with VISA to reverse the booking. I don’t trust this airline nor their web site. They are not customer service friendly. They want to rip people off. You are warned.

The first thing that you need to remember when booking a flight on Jetstar Airlines, is that they are a «BUDGET» airline in every sense of the word.
That being said, and bearing the above statement in mind, we booked our flight in the international business section of the aircraft, and this was an excellent decision on our part. The price was right as well. In business you don’t have to pay for anything including the bags. Food was hot, and the drinks cold. The seats were great, equivalent to the domestic business class seats on Hawaiian or Delta., and you can enjoy the Qantas lounge (at least when we traveled you could).
In coach, the amenities are very limited, but at the extremely discounted prices to Australia, I would expect nothing less. Yes, you have to pay for your drinks, entertainment and food, but you save tons of money.
YES, I copied and pasted this. Sydney is their home city, so it’s only fair that they get a positive rating as well.

Plus u can’t use Ur phone when boarding… are u kidding me? They actually charge for soda’s on the plane and $ 150 each suitcase for check in if you do it at the gate… are you kidding me? What a rip off!

Sometimes hit sometimes miss sort of sums up Jetstar. The budget airline can get it so right and not so right.
I’ve flown with Jetstar multiple times and the times that have been good have been so good. Take my trip to Bali for example. Incredible priced fare, no delays, great service, brand spanking new plane. Honestly the trip couldn’t have been better. The way home however wasn’t so great. Arriving at Bali airport for a 12AM flight we were told that the flight was cancelled. Why? Still couldn’t tell you to this day. Chaos ensued at the airport with long cues of people trying to get on the next flight. There seemed to be one person from Jetstar managing hundreds of displaced people. After finally getting on another flight the next day we were told that we could go to any hotel and we’d be reimbursed. We took ourselves to the hotel we’d been staying at which wasn’t cheap. When we arrived back in Sydney and asked the ground staff how to claim the money back they had no idea. I had to conduct an investigation to uncover where to send our receipts to. Once I’d sent all the necessary documentation off to Jetstar I received a letter back weeks later with a voucher for a fraction of the cost of the hotel — apparently there was a limit on what Jetstar would pay.
I wouldn’t say don’t fly with Jetstar but just expect the bare minimum and be pleasantly surprised if you get anything better.

Jetstar manages to make the budget airline experience part of the holiday rather than a cheap-​and-​nasty alternative to the ‘real’ thing. There must be a Jetstar briefing manual that requires staff to behave in a professional but laidback manner, and to use humour to interact with passengers and avert clashes and dissatisfaction. Our pilot certainly sounded almost as pleased to be flying toward the sunshine as we were.
But then, I chose to fly with Jetstar to a holiday destination. It was a bit mystifying that at the airport there were dedicated check-​in lines for Queensland holiday destinations, whilst a trailing queue awaited check-​in for the commuter destinations. Onboard, seating was a bit tight, which again, is fine for a holiday flight but would be testing if you actually needed to get the laptop out and work. And whilst I totally understand the concept of ‘pay-​for-​what-​you-​use’, surely it is more cost-​effective to serve every seat-​occupant a cookie and a cup of tea than to have the poor cabin crew fumbling around with cash, credit cards and an unwieldy trolley full of ‘menu items’ for sale? If I’d been that desperate for a packet of M&Ms I could have bought one at the airport before I boarded.

The first and only time I flew on Jetstar was from Sydney to Hamilton Island. As a budget airline, I was impressed by the fluidity of their operations at both airports and the general friendliness of the staff. At the check in counter in Sydney’s Kingsford Airport, the employee was very funny and sarcastic, especially when I was hesitant to check in one of my bags instead of carrying it with me. Based on my experience with terrible airlines in the US, especially on domestic flights, I always try to avoid checking my backs since there’s a high probability of them getting lost. When I humorously mentioned that to the Jetstar attended, she hilariously replied ‘this isn’t America, we’re better.’ So I checked my bag and it found its way safely to Hamilton Island.
Flying Jetstar made me realize that just because an airline is ‘budget’ doesn’t mean that they have to sacrifice customer service and reliability. Sure, there wasn’t any free food on the flight, but I don’t consider that something to complain about. The plane I flew on was brand new and it was a very smooth flight. Despite hearing mixed reviews about the airline, my experience was a good one.
