When I got to this pub I could basically see through time, having ridden my trusty singlespeed bike from Darlington, over the Bridge, around to Sawmillers Reserve, and then twice(twice!) up the horror that is the hill on Blues Point Road from the reserve there: not for the faint of heart or those low on calories. It says something that I was actually charmed by this place, despite the sweaty hangry state I was in. For one thing, it is huge and has a very lovely room out the back with bench seating running along the walls, lots of cushions, low ottomans, and autumnal ivy growing along the windowpanes through which you can even see a sliver of harbour. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon with a few people finishing a late lunch or enjoying a cheeky drink so the vibe was very relaxed. The menu is big but(in the case of most pubs) pretty lite-on for vegetarian options; we shared a beetroot, pomegranate and feta salad plus a bowl of steak chips, and I was adequately refuelled for the(much easier, despite city traffic) ride home.

My partner and I eat @Blues Point Hotel regularly. As of May 2015 the place has been revamped. The interior looks sensational yet modest. And the chef is still here therefore the food is still very good. Order anything off the board /wall menu and you will enjoy. This hotel has great atmosphere. Its a pleasant place to escape the hustle and bustle of North Sydney.

«You’re my BOY, Blue! *whispered repetition* You’re my boy.» Old School is a great movie, and highly topical since the Blues Point Hotel is also old skool. One of those brilliant Australian corner pubs with the tile frontage that can be hosed down after a big evening(but which isn’t these days, because this is the north shore baby), it’s been refurbed inside and there’s: — a bistro with food that would put most self-respecting gastropubs to shame — a sports bar/TAB that pumps on Melbourne Cup day — possibly my favourite lounge/drinking area in all of Christendom, with comfy couches, leather stools, and a really great private party area There used to be a guy that would drink in the public bar with a budgerigar on his shoulder. I hope he’s still around. That guy rules.

I think the main draw for the Blues Point Hotel has to be the location — half way down Blues Point Road with interesting views, especially around sunset. If you were after a quiet drink and a chat then walk past the commodore and head here, odds are it’s probably a bit quieter. The food served is not bad, standard pub food, probably not as good as the restaurants on Blues Point Road but not a bad choice if you are after a pub meal. Ambience is ok, the dining area out back is nice and there are two outdoor seating areas that are quite nice.

It can be hard to walk past the Commodore. I understand. You’ve already walked down the hill from North Sydney and the first port in the storm is a good one. But for a change, how’s about you keep on plodding and hang out at the charming Blues Point Hotel. They have $ 3 bubbles on Fridays. Does that help? Blues Point Hotel also has a pretty stonkingly view, and some good pub grub to boot. It’s a great place to kick back for a lazy Sunday afternoon(or to kick off the weekend with a glass of bubbly!). It’s less bustling than the Commodore, but if you’re catching up with friends then that can be a bonus.

The Blues Point Hotel is a fantastic venue for heaps of different occasions. With a spectacular view, location convenient to a train station and reasonable prices, it’s not difficult to see why the pub is busy at all hours. I’ve been there several times over the years, and it really never disappoints — a 21st held in the beautiful function room was well catered, with just the right amount of space for the people there. The staff were friendly, the drinks flowed and a good time was had by all — even if I did walk from North Sydney station dressed as The Little Mermaid. It’s also a great spot for lunch or dinner — the food is exactly as you’d expect from a pub, but it’s good! I’m a fan of the Caesar Salad and the Chicken Burger, although my friend’s streak looked mighty fine. At less than $ 15 each, it was money well spent. However good the food/drinks/staff though, few go to the Blues Point Hotel for this — it’s all about location, location! Located just down from North Sydney’s CBD on Blues Point Road, it’s a quick stroll from the office for many, with a view that makes the walk more than worth it. Alternatively, as a late-night reveler, you can skip back up the road for a cab or train. An absolute winner of a pub.
