Description

Specialties

«Coffea» is the Latin name for the genus coffee.

«Torrefazione» is Italian for a place where coffee is roasted.

A «Bottega» is an artisan’s workshop.

We proudly give our coffee roaster prime position in the shop. Our customers love getting an insight into coffee roasting, with all its sights, sounds and smells. We offer over 14 types of coffee beans including specially created blends and single origin from around the world. Our artisan coffee is hand roasted daily, in small batches, using a traditional drum roaster. Traditional hand roasting, as opposed to computerised roasting, means we can respond to variations in atmospheric conditions and in the beans themselves, bringing out the very best from every batch.

With the Queen Victoria Market at our back door, Coffea has access to one of the world’s best pantries! We use it to create Italian inspired fresh seasonal food.

Our chefs wander through the market every morning to get inspired. That may be a beautiful bunch of crisp Victorian asparagus, some ripe blushing peaches, a plump fresh quail, or some just caught sardines from our favorite fishmonger.

Our dishes are different each day, as are our selections of pannini and foccace. Our Italian style cakes and biscuits are all baked on the premises, including our signature «Castagnaccio», made with chestnut flour, pine nuts and rosemary.

History

Established in 2000.

After 10 years working as a Master Roaster for a famous Melbourne coffee pioneer, Fabio Costa created his own piece of Melbourne’s rich coffee history with the opening of Coffea Coffee Torrefazione Bottega at the Queen Victoria Market in the heart of Melbourne.
