I found this little café tucked away from the usual Melbourne laneways while looking for some respite after tramping around Melbourne CBD with my luggage, en route to the airport. I just needed a place to sit for 10 minutes where I could also park my carry-on sized suitcase and get a coffee. De Alleyway Espresso delivered with a comfy chair, free wifi and friendly staff. My only wish was that they had a free powerpoint as well, but that might be asking too much ;) Come here to get away from the hustle and bustle for 10 minutes!

I am happy to report that this café is as good as the previous reviewers claim! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly staff, and I ordered my coffee. Unlike my hometown, Brisbane, the staff and I struck up a conversation about the local area, and I had a very nice experience. I was so impressed by my Long Black, that I ordered another one! They have a loyalty card program, using the Apple Passbook program. It’s smooth, and easy to set up. I’m looking forward to going back again.

A little hard to find, follow the signs for the Gourmet Curry Hut. Wonderful welcome and knowledgeable friendly folks working the counter. Ordered their chai latte and delighted to find they were cooking it up on a little stove fresh right then from a tea/herb mixture, not a powder! I am grateful to find good chai in Melbourne! Sat down in a big comfy chair. They brought me a bottle of water. My chai was served on a small wooden board, pot, cinnamon and a warmed cup. The shop itself is tiny, but trim. Extra seating in the alleyway. Its near the alley entrance so it stays bright and breezy. Free wi-fi caps it all out. Delightful!

This little café is hidden just off Little Collins Street, funnily enough in an Alleyway. I walked in and you get a really warm, genuine welcome. The guys here look like the love coming to work everyday and the interaction they have with the customers. They had a couple of little couches in the shop, along with a bar with a couple of seats to cater. Above is the blackboard where you are encourage to draw. There is a sandwich cabinet with basic lunchtime treats, which they serve with an accompanying soup or salad. Feel quite satisfied after this lunch. Then there are the baked home made treats. The brownies are pretty divine. Yet to give the coffee a try but I’ll be back.
