I held a 60th at the highlander for my dad. It was such an amazing venue! The staff went above and beyond for us on the night. Kate was amazing and catered to my every need. She even organised balloons for me at the very last minute when I forgot them! I highly recommend this venue. Kate and her team are fantastic!

This place rocks! Really friendly staff who bend over backwards. Nothing too hard. Some yummy cocktails and a cool relaxed after work vibe. Lots of professionals from surrounding offices but all laid back. Hidden in a laneway– Highlander Lane is a very cool bar. Menu with a few interesting twists to give a try. Lots of drink and food specials. Mixed age group, a place to catch up with friends. A great find whilst travelling to Melbourne. Happy Days.

Okay, while I like secret bars, some of them can be pretty hit or miss, and this place, as far as I’m concerned, is a miss. Firstly it is only open on Friday nights, so you really need to time your visit here(namely Friday night). Well, they do open on Saturdays, but only if you book the place out. They do serve food but when I glanced at the menu there really wasn’t all that much that caught my attention. The other annoying this was the lack of seats. Basically there were more people than seats, which is something that does annoy me about some places. I did notice that they had an upstairs room, which wasn’t open, despite the fact that they did need some more room for people to sit down, but I guess that would have required having another bartender on duty to look after the bar up there. I did quite like the decorations, but that was about it. Okay, it wasn’t bad, but not a place I would be going back to anytime soon.

We started our night with burgers, the gorgeous smoky patty comes on a sweet brioche bun, with a little some gourmet lettuce, silky smooth mayonnaise and a delish chutney. The burgers themselves are a little difficult to eat, slipping and sliding a bit so probably avoid this place for first dates. If you are going out with the girls or guys for a great night then the effort to control this burger to get the best bite is totally worth it, even if a bit of the mayo ends up somewhere it shouldn’t. The fries that accompany the burger have a lovely seasoning with the occasional hint of spice… yum! Oh and you also get a alcoholic beverage to add to the enjoyment.

Happy hour for drinks and food! We split a jug of gin & tonic(4 shots to a jug) for $ 20. Garnished with real lime too. Of course that led to food. There was a food special but I’m not sure how much we paid for 3 different taco flavour, basically chicken, crispy fish and my favourite the slow braised wagyu. Each flavour came as 2 tacos. So we each had 3. So much food such great value. Great atmosphere! Check it out.

Hidden out of the way at the bottom end of the city, Highlander Bar has a great set menu ranging from finger foods all the way up to your usual pub fare– burgers, schnitzels and the like, but they’re offered with nice twists and are expertly prepared. Then there are the specials which seemingly change every week– this week it was sliders, with three for $ 15 proving excellent value. I had one chicken, one beef and one crunchy fish and they were all delicious in their own way with soft rolls and tasty extras like chipotle mayo. Add a drink for $ 2 and they were a great value Friday lunch.

Great melbourne bar, nice music to chill to. Comfy booth to socialize with friends and mad DJs.

Tucked amongst the back streets, behind the King Street strip clubs is Highlander Bar. Honestly, if I wasn’t here for a comedy show, I probably would never have come here. I would have walked straight past it without realising it was actually there. But, I was here for comedy, so adding some beverages to the mix should make it a bit funnier. Comedy aside, this is a difficult one to review because we were ushered upstairs to see our show. The upstairs bar is sparse, the range of drinks were limited, but the space itself has heaps of ottomans scattered around to make it comfy. The space upstairs looks like it would be a great little venue for a mid sized function. If I stumble upon it again, hopefully I get a chance to try the downstairs area.
