Sea on Quay is situated in a great location right by the river near DFO/South Wharf. So it came as a great surprise that the shop was completely empty during prime lunch hours, while the spot next to it(Pud Thai vs Phở) was crowded. It also came as a surprise that my order took over 15 minutes to arrive! However, it was quite tasty! The salmon was grilled perfectly with a nice slice of crispy skin on top. Loads of flavour. The chips were just average, thick cut ok and I had to ask for tartar sauce as initially there was no sauce on the side. Turns out they have a variety of sauces but that would have been helpful to know when ordering. I would recommend ordering a side salad instead of the chips. Healthier and probably would taste better by the looks of it. I’m giving this place 4 stars despite the slow service and average tasting chips because the salmon was excellent, server came to check up on me and provided a bottle of chilled tap water. If you have a long afternoon to spare or would like a casual spot for easy conversation, this place is for you.

First time to Australia. This place has not disappointed me as I believe it is closed to sea that fish should be inexpensive. I had their Fish and Chips that has been the best I had ever had even from UK. The piece of fish is big and juicy. The chips are big and chuky that I like. I didn’t use tomato ketchup at all. It was under A$ 10 for my meal. With beer, it is super. This is like a fast food shop with some seats inside. While we were eating, we saw some police officers buying food from there, that means … It is worth my time to eat there.

I ordered takeaway fish and chips here the other day and I was initially lured by the $ 14.5 deal with fish & chips plus condiments and salads.(Add $ 1 for grilled) It SOUNDED like a great deal, until you open up the box and found it almost 2⁄3 empty. I know restaurants trends are that you get given a huge plate with not much on, but a fish and chip shop? You must be kidding! The fish(rockling) was fresh enough and everything was ok, but it didn’t blew me out of the water and I left feeling more hungry than ever.

Well I decided to try this little gem for my early dinner. As it was my first time, I wasn’t sure how or what to order. I decided to try the flake, with papaya salad and the condiment of Thai herbs. The fish was perfectly cooked, batter light and definitely not greasy. The sauce was a beautiful balance of acid and spice. The salad was crispy and savory. I look forward to my next meal here… they are awaiting the liquor license

My favourite place in Melbourne for fish and chips! Burgers and pasta are amazing, too! Fresh food, friendly staff, good service everything that makes this place worth the visit!
