This shop was suggested by a friend with a love of 60s furniture. We entered with a specific agenda and were sidetracked almost immediately by shinny things. This place is definitely a little more hunter than gatherer, but thankfully things are placed somewhat orderly. They have all manner of little trinkets, treasures and bits and bobs here in various states of repair. Some items appear fairly priced, while others seemed a little on the pricey side… for the thrill of the hunt and the nostalgia alone this place is worth a visit.

If you’re into old and quirky antiques then you’ll love spending time at The Junk Company. Everything is organised in to like items. Want an art deco light shade, then head to the left hand side. Looking for some old vinyl for your music collection? Head halfway down the back on the right. What about an antique crinkle-cut chip slicer? You’ll find about 12 sticking out of some old milk bottles on one of the bookshelves. Spend any amount of time in here and you will find things you never knew you wanted or even needed. It’s a great spot to find a unique gift or something great for your home.

I picked up an awesome set of shelves for my CDs from the Junk Company. It’s solid, dark-stained wood — not in any modern design, just a minimal and heavy piece of wooden furniture, exactly how I like it. And it was $ 90. I also bought an old school(not old-school) box to keep my magazines in for $ 30. I reckon that sums up what you can expect from this shop: older, imperfect but good quality pieces of furniture for a mid-range price. It’s no Salvo’s, that’s for sure, but the stuff here is far more interesting than anything you’d find in a generic second-hand store. A friend bought an old steel ice box that used to be used for storing meat as an Esky because he’s into old metals. It’s really cool but was around $ 100, so not cheap. There’s two levels and it’s pretty cluttered, so give yourself time to scrounge around.

The Junk Company is, well… basically what it says on the sign. Envisage two floors quite literally piled high with everything of bygone eras that has managed to evade the tip. And by everything, I do mean everything. Slightly bedraggled couches, medicine cabinets, ceramic oddities, architect drawing boards, cement mixers — no really, everything and anything is acceptable here, as long as it’s not new. Whilst you’re unlikely to walk out with a total bargain, The Junk Company isn’t expensive either. It’s just… reasonable.
