La Vigna is our preferred place for a bottle of wine, whether for a Friday night at home, to bring to a gathering with friends or for a special occasion. The staff always have helpful suggestions on what wines to try, depending on our price point. They have suggested some beautiful chardonnays, sauv blancs and pinots and have a good selection depending on what you are in the mood for. On a budget? I have always found the staff particularly helpful at suggesting the best«bang for your buck» wines. It’s always good to have a trusted shop for wine wherever you go – La Vigna is just that for us.

Despite evidence to the contrary, with how many check ins and reviews I write about eating out, I do actually whip up a mean meal at home, especially when I have company. I like to match the wine with the food, and, not being an expert in this area, I am happy to seek advice on that score. That’s where the good people at La Vigna come in to their own. I understand it’s a family run business and every person who has served me over the years knows their stuff and I’ve never had a miss. Here’s an example of how the scenario generally runs when I walk in with a menu in mind, looking for matching wines: Me: «Hi, tonight I am cooking a smoked chicken with Moroccan spices, serving it on a bed of couscous with Italian parsley, roasted pumpkin, Swiss mushrooms and pine nuts. Tzatsiki on the side. Can you recommend a wine to go with this please?» La Vigna: «What is your budget and do you have a regional preference?» Me: [nominates budget and no preference] The La Vigna member then generally proceeds to give me around 6 — 8 options, from a variety of countries that may include Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, the Americas and a couple of options from different regions in Australia. They don’t just plug out the names, oh no. I get a full run down in 25 words or less of each wine selected, providing me with enough information to make an informed decision. And you know what? I have never had a wine I didn’t enjoy with each meal I have purchased for. So if you are doing something flash for someone special and you want a non-generic, not necessarily expensive wine to match but don’t know what to choose, get yourself down to La Vigna, tell them what you are cooking and they’ll take care of the rest.

What a great selection of wines! The first region to catch my eye were the Hungarian reds, quite a personal connection with my late father’s background so I that was my first purchase. My second purchase was a Sangiovese de Romagna red. Why? Two days before i had just watched Tony Bourdain’s episode of Emilia Romagna so i was intrigued and there it was. La Vigna will most definantly have the wine/liquor for you no matter the region running through your mind. Very helpful staff also, which makes the experience satisfying and educational.

La Vigna is one of Perth’s premium liquor stores. There is a stunning collection of international wines as well as rare spirits and internationally crafted beers. It’s owned and run by a family and the service is not wanky in the slightest, despite what the range of liquor might suggest. I picked up a bottle of champagne for new years and the girl behind the counter assured me I had made a great choice and offered me a cold bottle. She told me her parents, who are the owners, had visited the châtelet where the wine is made earlier that year. The staff are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about helping you make the right choice. If there’s a bottle of wine or a beer you tried at a restaurant or overseas that you want to find, La Vigna could be your best bet.
