Milsons Point Station

Yep, it’s a train station, and not all that flashy either, but for convenience it is second to none. For instance, if you have just walked across the Harbour Bridge it is there, and you can catch the train back (unless you want to go on a return trek that is). If you want some awesome views of the harbour and the city, well you don’t even have to leave the station, you can just stand there are get a pretty good glimpse. Want to do a bit of train spotting? Well you can do that here as well, especially since you get to see the trains come off the harbour bridge. The trains are actually pretty frequent as well, so you can step off, wander around, and get back on the next one. Oh, there is also a park, a couple of pubs, and some coffee shops and restaurants all within a very short walk of the station. While it may seem like just another railway station, it is the disembarkation point for many of the wanders of Sydney harbour. Whatever you do don’t blink (or fall asleep) as you might miss it.

A little train station with sweeping views of all the major tourist attractions in Sydney. Passing through here is the daily highlight of my work commute. The Bridge! The Harbour! The Opera House! Luna Park! The sunshine and the views are worth the price of admission, even if you aren’t commuting.
Sometimes I even get off at this station and enjoy a leisurely walk along the Harbour and then make my way up to North Sydney. Ha! Fooled you… I never do that, but I have thought about it, on occasion.

Milly P is probably THE station on the Sydney transport system. Like a lone wolf surrounded, she backs herself… and wins.
This stranded island above the city streets affords a tantalising view of the bridge, and access to just about everything you want to see. The station itself gets regular train traffic since it is sandwiched between North Sydney and Wynyard. I feel at ease sitting here waiting for a train. The chaos of the city rages around you, the multitude of steel wheels and skyscrapers reminding you that you are living in a bustling city, whilst you sit unperturbed on a concrete oasis removed from the drama, but a spectator to all of it.
Alighting affords you exquisite views of the harbour, Kirribilli (one of the most eligible ‘burbs), North Sydney pool for that quick dip, and Luna P for the kiddies.
For tourists there are little nooks and crannies everywhere along the foreshore to take photos from and relax and soak up the scenery (Bradfield Park, Dr Mary Booths Lookout, Jeffrey Street Wharf to name a few) — and you can access the Harbour Bridge itself and walk its entire span, from a pedestrian walkway on the Kirribilli Hotel side.
This is the last stop before you go over the bridge on the train. If you are downstairs, move upstairs to gain a view of the harbour over the side of the bridge.

It has platforms. And a great view.
Underneath it has a café and a few other shops.
I might add that the café does a mean coffee, can’t remember the name of it but doubly awesome at 7am when you need that caffine hit.

Milsons Point station (note no apostrophe in the name!) must be the CityRail station with the most real estate value. It’s got the lot, incredible value, never to be repeated again: views (including water views and Harbour Bridge views), close to transport (yeah, literally, but ferries, f®eeway and buses are also not far away), close to shops (a couple of restaurants and cafes down there), heritage building, lifts built-​in, gardens at your (non-​existent) door-​step. The list goes on. It also has got two bathrooms, an unknown number of rooms (probably more than your average home), but no parking spaces and no swimming pool:(
Ok, in terms of real estate value I’ve lied a bit here. Circular Quay station is equally good (just see my review of it). The best part of this is you get to enjoy this value every time you check in here, and it only (!) costs you the price of a CityRail ticket.
The interesting thing with the transport hub ‘Milsons Point station’ is that you won’t even really notice it’s there. Once you step out of the station building, which on its ground level really is just an arch-​way under the extension of our Harbour Bridge, you’re either in Kiribilli village, or Bradfield Park. From either side, it’s just a stone’s throw to the harbour. One last breath of harbour air. Breath-in…aaaahh fresh air: «Please stand clear. Doors closing.» Oi, bummer.

Insomuch as one can have a favourite train station, Milsons Point is hands down my #1.
Jag your ticket (prices just went up for the new year, horrendously up), walk through the barricades and up the stairs. All pretty standard so far, but stay with me. Once up the stairs, walk out onto the platform. There’s a covered bit for rain, but wander past this and thar she blows: a long expanse of sunny platform with with harbour views. An eagles eyrie, a concrete mountaintop from which the entire world is laid out at your feet. And look, is that. .. it is! The Coat Hanger itself, the Harbour Bridge splayed out before you like a puppy on its back begging for a scratch.
The fresh wind blows, the blue sky gleams, and you’re an unstoppable falcon destined for greatness. Ditch the city driving (and parking, guh) and get the train in from Milso instead.
