I went in to get some fabric just cheap off cuts and whatnot. Anywho! Apparently the staffs main purpose is to actively avoid customers and thus avoid what you think they should be doing! I purchased the fabric, so that’s a a few stars. But I was made to feel like an annoyance in my severs day, she was having a fun time chatting to her co workers but was distant and rude to me. Gah I just have no time for rude people in retail. Get a different job.

This spotlight has EVERYTHING, if you can find it in their perpetual mess and if you can get a staff member to help you. Spotlight always look like the first day of after Christmas sales have just ended and the staff look just as frazzled. I have to give them some credit, people coming into this shop are always looking for something specific and always seem to hijack staff for long periods of time to fulfil whatever craft idea they have. Spotlight has a huge range of textiles, crafts, art supplies and household goods at very low and reasonable prices. They also host classes and workshops for different craft ideas and children during the holidays. It can just be a bit frustrating getting through the experience.

I used to get dragged in here all the time by the other half. She’s all about crafting and making things. Oh, don’t get me wrong, she still goes here, but she doesn’t have to drag me anymore. This is mainly due to evolving interests within the Australian convention circuit. While Spotlight have a large variety of items, they are still rather limited. Fabrics I require in certain colours and certain types of buttons have all had to be ordered online as Spotlight can’t get them in. It’s a shame as the store is huge and there’s a lot of potential. Now I’m not saying they should have what I want when I want. I’m not that unfair. I would have assumed that buying some basic dark green velvet would be an easy ask. They only have one shade of green that’s too light and it’s stretch velvet anyway. I guess I can’t fault them alone on this. Places like DK Fabrics are just as restricted and I have trouble getting what I want there as well.

I have so many memories of this Spotlight and coming here as a kid with my mum and sister. We would come after school to pick up material(when mum used to actually make things) and choose craft items. Spotlight has such a large range from cushions, bedding, material in every shape and color and texture, craft, curtains, decorations, bathroom items, sewing machines to storage. The ladies were always lovely, little, old and experienced, you could tell they’d been sewing for decades. I used to love trawling through the mountains of material, picking out what colour I’d like my clothes and touching everything! Even though it’s located within the ugliest shopping centre around(in my opinion), Spotlight will always have a fond place in my heart and be the only attraction to Clovercrest shops.
